something strange with that floppy drive i tell ya, i managed to get it apart by looking at the links you provided. couldnt see anything that looked out of place, so i thought bugger it ill just plug it back in with the lid off so i could hear better if there was power running through it etc. it powered up instantly.
no idea what was causing the lack of power but its fine now.
