Beware of CubeMX self-generated code, it is often bugged as hell and you'll lost lots of time following glitches buried in (frankly) too many levels of abstraction.

Thanks, I'll give it a look. I know what you mean about CubeMX, it's been getting better but is still quite bad.
Did you find a cheap dev board for this project or just make your own?
