The first HOL screenshot you linked shows the game running in the
Frotz interpreter. Frotz was not included with the game (it didn't exist then and is not an Infocom product), so that screenshot is misleading.
Playing Infocom games with a third-party interpreter like Frotz is a nicer experience than the original bare-bones Amiga interpreter.
