What may be even faster theoretically (I wonder how much) would be if there was an option for higher end machines (with some fast ram, but still only chipset, no RTG) to render the console in a shadow offscreen plane in fast ram and then cpu-blit it into the window (so no chipram reads, only chipram writes, so faster than blitter). To avoid shifts in cpu blit one could have the offscreen plane/bitmap ~WORD aligned similiar to cliprect bitmaps of hidden areas of smart refresh layers.
