Ok, this game always loved the idea of but was never any good at.

It was a shoot em up where you were the gunner/pilot of an aircraft of some sort. You'd go into sectors where there were enemies and shoot aliens or whatever they were. Normally these would move around the screen in groups or lines and you'd be trying to get your crosshairs on them the whole time.

When you weren't actually on missions you'd be looking at a radar screen watching enemies move into your sectors, which is when you'd then choose to go back out.

I think you could upgrade weapons and bits on your aircraft but I'm not sure.

What I AM sure about is that you could accelerate time to bring more enemies into your sectors before you flew a mission. I remember doing this a lot.

Does anyone recognize this?
