If you want to play it properly on an emulator, try to get hold of the Eurasia version. It's internally patched to allow you to set the sun level directly. Should have been part of the original; in my oppinion the solar sensor is a bad idea.
As for emulators: VisualBoyAdvance is great for compatibility, which is what it has been written for. Want
speed? Get no$gba; on my Pentium 3 550mhz this emu flies, and still runs most games properly. Same aplies to snes9x versus zsnes (runs 50 frames on my peecee).
