Ok, so it turned out that I had the happy new year '96 virus in my system. Now everything works great, Shapeshifter works with caches, but the Mac still takes a bit over 2 min to get to the boot screen. From there, it's a 12 sec ride to the finder.
I tried different roms but it didn't change that. Any other ideas about what could be causing that?
