It's DPF, yes.
I use all sprites on the main character, so I have 64pixels width for his sword moves.
I didn't want to pull off a Lionheart and have a ridiculously short sworded Barbarian in my game...
So, everything here was a conscious design decision. Especially giving up the red for having more vibrant color ramps in the foreground instead of blood.
