Could someone possibly explain how these new save states work? I had assumed that I would be able to start again from where I had died, or at least nearby but instead when I started the game again my save slot was empty? You didn't specify but it sounds like you're talking about my Turrican 2 AGA version. It will save at the start of every level, and there is text that pops up saying "Game Saved".
It is intended for people who do not have time to play through the entire game in one go, not as a cheat mode that gives you infinite retries. Perhaps I should have named it differently to make it clearer.
It sounds like you want to play with Easy or Trainer mode if you can't get past the first level.
