you should upgrade whdload and also the syndicate slave. The saves are now in a single file (Bert re-wrote a proper nonvolatile.library emulation)
Nothing is done about the speed yet. But in retrospec it's not surprising that there are issues. I already fixed Bullfrog Populous 2 in that aspect.
