download ffmpeg:

unpack it in ram:
you find a file called "unpack"
double clicking on it will unpack you in ram:
ffplay-generic
move the entire folder to wherever you like within your system

then drag in an ffplay-generic shell and immediately after drag a file in .mp4 format
in the middle give this command
-vo sdl

then the complete shell command for example:
ffplay-generic -vo sdl video.mp4

if everything works and the audio of the video is heard until the end
then the problem is in mplayer-gui and the audio configuration
if this also gives you audio problems you have to fix the audio in os 4.1

ffplay will come in handy later because it supports streaming such as twitchTV

Hi,
I've checked the settings as suggetsted in your previous post and they seem to be right. I've then run the commands you suggest. If I use the -vo sdl command I have a problem - 'option vo not found' and the video won't play

If I don't use that option the video plays although very stutteringly. As it plays the sound once again does fade towards the end of the the video. The sound is extremely bad but hearable until it fades.
