If i remember well to use the bombs you have to crouch, press fire and keep it pressed until the arrow you see in the lower part of the screen reaches the end. At that point leave the fire button and the bomb will explode.
I also believe that the original came on three disks, because on the documentation of my HD install there's a mention to "all three original disks".
