Each character is 8-12 pieces and we can usually render 6 of them (with no frame drops). So it's max ~70 pieces. Results may vary depending on the level and size of each character.

The project's name is 'Dread'. But there isn't any game made yet, it's just an engine. Once the engine is complete a new game might come out of it. And yes, it runs on an Amiga 500 + 512k. ;)

I'm not 100% sure I understand what you're asking, however what's stoping you from loading your png inside tiled as a tileset and then just grab the whole thing and paste it into your map?
