Are those console VGA boxes any good btw? There's only one that I've seen that uses scart, all the rest are composite and s-video, which seems utterly pointless to me.

Definitely paint it. Just don't do what I did years ago - apply a coat of paint by brush and without any primer.
Shops like Games Workshop should have some decent plastic primer spray paint.
