I managed to fix the FZ-357A and it now reports the correct drive ID again.

So the mystery remains, why would a FB-357A not work in an A1200, while the FZ-357A does.

I suggest using the internal drive connector (that's what I'm doing). /SEL0 and /MTR0 seem to be specially generated. I have not attempted to see what happens...

When the clock stores the last written time but does not advance it during machine power off, it is likely that the circuit providing the external 32khz is broken. Check very carefully around that....
