I would suggest it was a compilation version, company who licenced it from Gremlin, tested it barely on a1200, decided "it works" and highlighted it with writing a1200 on the disks.

No disk swapping faff, no configuration faff, less bugs in the games, protection stuff...

I think the only way anyone will see any difference is to have a side by side video.

Either way, a rewrite is the only way this game sees justice, I can't imagine there is anything to learn from...

I wouldn't necessarily say "awesome machine", it was more to do with awesome programmers who were able to wring what they could out of it, some of the best 68000 programmers are on the ST scene...

I think the read only bug can be fixed by creating the directories AUTOBOOTS and DEBUGS in the WHDLoad zip or do it manually on the USB stick after unzipping the WHDLoad zip

Yup. I've ripped the sector format as a 256k file which gets preloaded into memory, and I've patched the sector loading routines to goto the ram loaded file instead.
