If you pull the splitter all the way up, you get a nice non distracting interface with one large image.

Some things I noticed:
1. Image aspect ratio is slightly off....

Perhaps it depends on the kernel configuration, like preempt=idle/full/voluntary CONFIG_HZ_xxx and all the other fun stuff...
