Simon the Sorcerer 3 for example was the worst game in the series, and mostly because it went 3D and lost its charm, and graphical humour - not to mention containing a horribly coded camera that just served to frustrate.

Bomberman 3D was another game that should never have been made in 3D.

There are so many examples my friend. I never actually saw Simon the Sorcerer 3, but i just could NOT imagine it being in 3D. Part 1 & 2 were such beautifully and artistically drawn masterpieces, so to make it 3D is a travesty!.:sad

Monkey island anyone? ;-)

I didn't actually mind any of the sequels .. they just weren't as witty as the original two due to that guy leaving I think :)

Hungry Horace 30 November 2007 18:17

i actually liked Curse of Monkey Island though - but that wasnt 3d :p

didnt get a chance to get into the 4th one.... i borrowed it from my brother and had to return it!

Murray the evil skull is the funniest character in the series, next to stan!

murray : "I'll walk through the gates of hell..."
guybrush: "walk?"
murray: "Okay ROLL, ROLL through the gates of hell! Must you make fun of everything?"

Maybe not 100% correct that quote, but the general idea is in there :) I can't even get part 4 to work, no matter what copy I use. It always crashes to the desktop at the same point, it doesn't like the nVidia chipsets I am feeding it :s

Yup, Monkey Island is a classic example of a series being ruined by 3D :crying

1st & 2nd rock... I also like the 3rd ;)

4 is a piece of shite, played it for 2 hours just to give it a chance but it was absolute rubbish :banghead:banghead:banghead

Ravey 01 December 2007 00:24

Yeah, Monkey Island 1-3 were good. Mostly the first two and especially the second, but the style of the 2D games is only one thing I liked - The story was way more important.

That was the main problem with MI4, the story of Monkey Island was botched without Ron Gilbert (Monkey Island 1 and 2). However the 3rd game atleast held up as being it's own thing so to speak.

StarEye 01 December 2007 00:58

To be fair, Escape from Monkey Island wasn't bad because of the 3D. It worked surprisingly well in 3D. But it's the game itself that wasn't very good. I don't think it should've been a Monkey Island game at all. The last hour of the game was also completely messed up, and destroyed Monkey Island forever.

Wasn't there supposed to be a Cannon Fodder 3 in 3D which was shelved? Thankful it didn't happen.... can't imagine it ever being the same otherwise :(

Retro-Nerd 07 December 2007 20:49

metal slug- ..u rghhh

bubble bobble + rainbow islands revolution on the psp anyone?
king of fighters ... wasnt TOO bad but lost the charm of the AMAZING 2d sprites !

Graham Humphrey 08 December 2007 10:44

A lot of Sonic 3D games aren't very good (if that counts)... especially Sonic Heroes (or whatever it's called) on the PS2. That was a crime against humanity.

EmuChicken 08 December 2007 11:13

I reckon "Mario 64" wasnt that good either :/ ... super mario world ftw!

Marcuz 08 December 2007 13:03

i don't know if it was 3d that ruined the serie of Monkey Island. the story of the third and fourth episodes are crap nevertheless. but Monkey Island 4, bought when it was out, is the only game of the serie that i have not finished. too depressing.
