Gamebase Amiga 2.3

Hi,

while working on completing my Gamebase Amiga collection, I've added several new screenshots and game files along the way.

Belgarath kindly allowed me to share my "version 2.3" with you. You can find it on the EAB FTP server in /Gamebase Amiga 2/.
There is a .ZIP file available, or you can just download what you like from the Amiga 2.3 subfolder.

To ease the load on the server, you can also use this mega.nz link:

This is fantastic. Thanks twitek! And obviously thanks Belgarath for the enormous amount of work he's put into it.

I hope you don't mind but I have some questions:

- Is there a changelog for this update? ie. Is it a couple of games added/updated or dozens?
- Do you have plans to continue it or is this a one-off?
- Do you verify games to be the best possible versions? I know Belgarath and DamienD always verify games as best as they can. Just curious if you're doing that too, or if you're just selecting anything that looks like it might be the best version to include.

Even if you stop here, I'm still happy and greatly appreciate you taking the time to update GBAmiga :)

There is no changelog. When i started, my goal was to find all missing files and complete my Gamebase 2.1. Two days ago i found the "Amiga 500 - 1200" Gamebase by dax, which would have been an easier starting point. Oh well...
Statistics/no. of files:
Code:

        dax2.0  2.1  2.3
Games    3013  3036  3152
Tunes    2201  2201  2201
Pictures  4793  3195  3323
Extras  10747 11225 11232

dax added 2916 pictures from HOL to his GB. I asked at HOL if i may use them too, but no reply yet.

TLDR; 116 game files added, 128 screenshots, 7 extras.

Am i as meticulous as Belgarath and DamienD? Maybe not. That's not up to me to decide.
In the end, we all can only choose from what is available to us.

Yippee. GBAmiga is back :D

I was wondering about that recently. Because, when I look at "All Games" in my old GBA (not sure now if it's 2.1, or dax's version) the number is 5132. Meanwhile, in your 2.3 it's 5131.

Great to hear. If you need help, I have a huge collection of manuals & other extras in pdf format. I could check what's missing in the current GB and send you the list and files, then you could add it all.

I checked the lists. The differences between 5132 in 2.1 and 5131 in 2.3 are:

duplicate and broken entry: 'Allo 'Allo! Cartoon Fun!
added: Bismarck german version
added: Links Championship Course 2 - Bountiful Municipal Golf Course, Utah
combined: Spaceward HO! ECS and Spaceward HO! AGA english (both versions are on the same disks)
combined: Spaceward HO! ECS and Spaceward HO! AGA german
removed: UMS II - Scenario Disk 1
removed: UMS II - Scenario Disk 2 - Napoleon
- both are in the WHDLoad of the main game "UMS II - Nations at War" and I can't find the disks. In hindsight ... in will re-add those two.

Plus some renamed entries.

Sure, go ahead! Manuals are always useful.

Hi everyone, first of all thanks to twitek for the effort he is making in carrying out this project, I hope you want to continue in the future.

On the GameBase64 website you will find a mod of mine created on the basis of this version of the GameBase, all contents at the database and file level are by twitek and have not been changed, I only limited myself to making it portable, fixing and improving the scripts and WinUAE configuration files updated to the latest version, creating a bezel, etc.
For the complete list of changes, I refer you to the original post on gamebase64.com...

Finally proceeded with the twitek / cnterr update, had to include a few "notes" by hand since Gamebase import feature is rather limited in scope
I was running a very old version of Gamebase Amiga / Mage (v1.4.3 I think) before that
For the record, I don't use it to play games, just for wading through my list of favorites, or should I say noteworthy Amiga games
A small tip, you may use the .png's from DamienD collection along with Gamebase auto renaming capabilities for those games that are still missing screenshots in Mage

SquawkBox 04 July 2021 19:59

Noticed a potential issue with one of the database entry :

Highlighting said game (Allo! Allo! Cartoon Fun!) will make Gamebase crash, no biggie. So what I did was delete the duplicate entry with MDB Viewer Plus. It didn't seem to affect my gamebase setup upon restart (and Allo! Allo! Cartoon Fun! is still there, with its screenshots and all).
1) Make a backup first 2) You're doing this at your own risk :)

I tried to download it, but link is dead. If you have the chance to upload one more time, i will mirror it with easybytez.

EAB ftp is overloaded.

Radertified 25 July 2021 01:10

The Mega link works fine. It's just that twitek linked it incorrectly in the first post.

Ok i have been able to download it! Thanks.

Are Gamebase adfs standalone adfs or will they not work under Winuae?

Those are regular .adf files, which are Amiga disk images that work in all emulators.

Well, I just thought they may be load for whdload, like renaming they to disk.1 and voila. Protected disks won't work this way correctly.

Yes, you can use an .adf file from Gamebase, rename it to Disk.1 and use it together with a <whdload-game>.lha file from whdload.de. Depends which version of the game the creator of the whdload slave expects. Sometimes they work with a cracked version, sometimes with a copy of the original disk and sometimes with the files copied of the disk.

What is your plan exactly?

Gamebase:
.ADF - (in games folder) for normal Amiga disks without copy protection. Mostly cracked games.
.IPF - in extras\SPS folder. For original disks with copy protection
WHDload - in extras\whdload. The ones in Gamebase Amiga already contain "Disk.1" or similar, so the games can be started.
