viruses ?

Hi everyone,

I installed winuae on my work laptop
(I had Classic Workbench installed instead of wb3.1)
I then played some games, then suddently windows asked for a reboot and disabled the antivirus (kaspersky)

maybe it's a coincidence but IT prefered to scratch my computer and remaster it just in case

so, are there virus on amiga ?

could the emulator influence windows behaviour ?

I used a cracked version of amiga forever (yeah I know, my bad) so maybe the kickstart roms I added to WHDload contain malware

since I did not know anything about the amiga I prefered not to invest any money at first (I am gonna order the official version of Amiga Forever just in case)

thanks for your input
Phil

Better go to Hyperion website to find a dealer to by a recent copy of the AmigaOS & ROMs (3.1.4 or 3.2) and then use WinUAE.
If you want the old ROMs (1.3 - 3.1) and don't have an old Amiga under your hands, yes, Amiga Forever is the way to go to get them legally. But again, I would recommend you to prefer the use of WinUAE over the emulator bundled in Amiga Forever.

For the other point of your post, since the amiga emulator is a Windows program, it can of course, like any other Windows application, be infected by a virus. So mind your sources ;)

Probably the keygen that made the virus warning :)

roms only contain amiga cpu opcodes...so I found it hard to believe that even an amiga virus could interfere with windows

...and I did not enable the network in my config

anyway I'll get a legit Amiga Forever package (yet still using WinUAE of course)

But... There's... Literally the best Amiga emulator (and one of the most comprehensive, compatible and feature-rich emulators all around) is FREE. Thanks to Toni and his amazing efforts and work throughout the years.

Use WinUAE. Stay safe. :D

Amiga viruses normally can't interfere with windows. For this to happen, they must be specifically designed for this and there has to be a backdoor in the emulator to allow native code execution.

yes there are Virus's on amiga's.. I would suggest VirusZ and make sure you have it updated..
the same as there are virus's on Linux, Apple, and PC's..
I would get an offline antivirus and boot from a flashdrive to make sure there are none on the PC..
I too have the keygen for amiga forever.. not that i have used amigaforever.. i use winuae and the rom i took from my amiga1200 before i binned it.. basically i broke it using a ide card catweasel.. and connected a cdrom drive.. so of course when i moved the amiga with the attached cdrom, the drive fell of as i was moving it.. and pulled the cable and the amiga never booted again.. binned.

A virus could have got through even with kaspersky running.. i've noticed recently via my emails there seem to be a lot of PDF's attachments and yes those can be infected.. which is why i never downloaded them.. didnt know the sender and it seemed to be the same type..

Wouldnt blame the keygen unless it was from a different group..
mine is by CRD filesize 269,312bytes
or CRUDE via the latest version *******.*****.********.*.**.*.*.*.****.******-***
