PCMCIA disk

1 Attachment(s)
Hi, last week I received my PCMCIA adapter from amigastore.eu.
It came with a disk with drivers and software but the disk is giving read/write errors in both floppy disk drives that I have.
I am not sure whether the problem is with the disk or my drives but I thought that maybe I could download an ADF of the disk to put in my GOTEK.
Does anyone know what software is on this disk or maybe help me get the ADF for it? Thanks in advance!
It's for use in my A1200.

It probably has an installer for these two packages:

http://aminet.net/package/driver/media/CFD133
http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/fat95

Feel free to download them from Aminet and install them manually.

The ADF likely isn't freely available.

Check out ComFy by @ppill :

http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=57259

I've used this and it worked great for me when I was just getting into using PCMCIA CF.

Might also be worth liaising with amigastore.eu for their ADF version so you can use the official product.

@ Jope: So these two files would work for any brand/kind of PCMCIA adapter?
I can't really tell what kind I've bought.

@lesta_smsc: I will reach out to the store and ask, but it is weekend and
I really want to get this thing working :)

So use ComFy lol...

Or even easier, check out the premade ADF on this YouTube video:

https://youtu.be/L1dgVTdMUXM

From approx 6 mins onwards he mentions this is free software so I'll put disk image in the description lol...

I actually sent my first disk using Amiga Explorer back in the day. Connected my Amiga to PC using serial port! Things are so much easier now...

Yes, all the PCMCIA CF adapters work the same. The Amiga stores just buy them in bulk, remove any stickers and glue their own in place.

Thanks for the info guys.

I just tried the premade ADF file in my GOTEK but that also gives read/write
errors. Very strange.

To get the files mentioned by Jope on the A1200 I guess I will have to go the WinUAE route. I will report back!

I too bought a CF adapter from AmigaKit a while back and that floppy also had read write issues - the install script didn't work, but as I recall the individual utilities worked from the floppy and I *think* I was able to manually install but can't remember.

Sounds like maybe the master disk is corrupt at AmigaKit or their floppy supply is suspect. I didn't pursue a replacement as I was able to make the adapter work so it ceased to be a problem.

sorry misread the original post and "assumed" it was Amigakit - therefore just a huge coincidence - nothing to see here, move along ;)

Haha, probably the same disk!

If you have a gotek, it isn't strictly needed. Just make an adf with any adf creation method and copy the files in.

I use lallafa's amitools myself, but there are plenty of gui programs for this too.

I just looked at that but the description said: "amitools is a set of (mainly) Python 2.x libraries that help classic Amiga (m68k) Development.
The tools in this project are intendent for developers and assume good knowledge of the Amiga and its OS."
That's definitely not me! :)

But you gave me an idea. I'm now looking at ADFview at http://www.viksoe.dk/adfview/ Looks promising.

Well I got the fat95.lha on my Amiga. Copied it to Ram disk and extracted it.
An install program seems to come out. "install_95". When I double click it
nothing seems to be happening. Am I doing something wrong?

Jope 24 January 2021 16:45

It doesn't say anything, but it copies files to their correct places. Check your L: directory to see whether fat95 has appeared there.

I haven't had a chance to check the ADF but have you tested in WinUAE? Seems strange if errors on Gotek and it otherwise works OK.

Strange right? I will check it later to see.

It has appeared there so that's good. I just expected the installer to say
something. A noob like me doesn't know where the installer sends its stuff.

MBG 26 January 2021 09:53

Yesterday evening I received an email from Amigastore.eu with the ADF for
the install disk. Very nice of them to respond so quickly.
I proceeded to install it with my GOTEK and it seems to have worked nicely.

After disabling my accelerator card with a jumper I can now see my CF card
on the desktop. It's a 16GB card that I have one 1,94GB FAT32 partition on,
made on a Windows computer. The rest of the card is unused.
It says CF0:Uninitialized and is greyed out.

Any ideas what to do next?

That does normally mean the card is recognised but has not been formatted as FAT32.

Are you absolutely sure that it has been formatted and working as FAT32?

Yes, it's working when I put it in my USB card reader on the Windows computer. I can copy files to it no problem.
