Don't ever think about connecting amiga joystick/mouse to RS-232 port!

Good site:

Schematics about what?
Amiga joy/mouse connector fits in RS-232 port on pc side.
"Joe User" might just try to check if it works ... without any schematics.

btw, once you have plugged in the competition pro joystick in the PC,will windows XP do the rest(detect the joystick) or do i have install some files or something to make it work with winuae?

DamienD 23 May 2006 19:18

Hey mangemani,

Not too sure as I don't have a Competetion Pro Joystick myself...

You may need to install drivers for it to be recognised by Windows XP... Hopefully it will be plug and play, if not then installing drivers isn't too difficult really. Once this is recognised by Windows XP, WinUAE will automatically see the joystick ;)

mangemani 23 May 2006 20:13

i hope it is plug and play then, cause i dont have any CD or disk drives in my computer:p
perhaps i coud download the the drivers for it somewhere?

Toni Wilen 23 May 2006 20:46

Competition Pro USB does not need any extra drivers.

mangemani 23 May 2006 21:17

good:)..thanks.
so now i can finaly enjoy SWOS on the computer(almost impossible to play that on the keyboard:( )

adgloride 24 May 2006 21:00

I have a usb competition pro joystick, its just plug and play on windows xp no more drivers needed.

mangemani 24 May 2006 21:03

ok,i got the stick now,but im a bit confused here,i dont know if there is something wrong with the stick or my computer, but when i play SWOS for example and i steer left with the stick,it will take up to ½-1 sec before the player goes left,i i press the button the player will shoot ½-1 sec after i pressed the button...perhaps i just imagine this.

That sounds pretty strange about the lag in response, have you tried it with other games in WinUAE? I've been using a Playstation controller with a USB converter on the end in my PC for a couple of years and it works fine, no lag at all in any emulators.

mangemani 26 May 2006 08:24

i tested it on some other versions of SWOS and then it worked fine, but later when i played moonstone the same thing happened=/

I use Xbox controllers via a USB adapter also. No issues what-so-ever ;)

The micro switches in the new Competition Pro are not the best. I exchanged them with the ones from my old amiga Competition Pro and the stick works perfect for me.

hi guys,

i've been playing swos97 for quite some time now with a speed link comp. pro-usb joystick. having wanted to go back to the good, old days i've just bought a couple of wico's lovely red ball-joysticks together with a usb-converter.

as it turns out winaue can't recognize these wonders when having them plugged in + having installed the converter.

i can choose the usb converter in "game & i/o ports" under "serial port" (com7) but i can't find it - or the joystick - (as i'm used to finding the comp. pro usb) under "mouse/joystick ports".

i've been trying different versions of winuae - latest version 1.4.2a.

not even the best wank in the word can compeed with a game of swos with a working red ball connected, so please help me out here, guys. it'd be most highly appreciated. THANK YOU!
