Confession Time - Have you ever binned an Amiga?

I did.
Probably about 15 years ago now.
I chucked a working A1200 with 030 board and 8 megs of RAM into a skip.
I didn't really think anything of it at the time but now I look around me and see loads of stuff I still have that was far more worthy of binning at the time and wonder what on earth I was thinking.
Luckily my A1000 is still at my dad's, even though the A1080 monitor that came with it ( which was admittedly knackered ) went in the same skip as the 1200.
:(

I propose stoning in the public square.

Before anyone takes me seriously: I'm obviously kidding :D

To be fair, it's probably no less than I deserve.

Regrets, yes, have many, never binned an Amiga but regret selling the ones I had back in the day. (Also regret selling 100 BTC back in 2012 for USD $12 each, that one hurts a bit more than anything Amiga related.)

No, you deserve being happy, we all do. Never too late for an Amiga.

Nobby_UK 06 May 2021 16:14

Nope ---
Even the ones that broke
were swapped for working ones

Pyromania 06 May 2021 16:23

I chucked a A2000 once because it was really rusted and damage. It was given to me and I didn't see a way to bring it back to life.

Fuzzball 06 May 2021 16:54

I sold a A500 and threw out a A600. I've regretted it ever since as they were (and still are) my favourite machines of all time. No doubt about it.

Matt_H 06 May 2021 17:01

Never threw out an Amiga, but I did dump 3 1084s that, in hindsight, probably could have been repaired. Alas.

jotd 06 May 2021 17:02

I threw a A1200 motherboard that went dead after years of usage. But bought 2 other ones. That was 20 years ago and I still have the 2 "new" motherboards, one is currently running my A1200/060.

Not me, but a few years ago my mother cleaned up her garage and threw away a 1084S monitor (no biggie) but also a Microvitec multisync monitor without asking me first.

okay they're CRTs and we have scandoublers and cool LCDs but still... that hurt.

also found a Amstrad CPC6128 in the street just next door. But didn't pick it up! next day it was gone. I suppose that someone was smarter and picked it up. Regretted not picking it up myself (even if I'm not into Amstrad)...

Never binned an old home computer, have binned a couple of aging PCs though.

I regret selling an Amstrad CPC6128 and an Atari 1040STE that somehow landed in my basement though.

Pyromania 06 May 2021 17:09

My stepmother binned two Amiga 3000 machines. I gave her a hard time about it for years and years.

If you tell her how much they worth now, you'll give her some more :D

Cd32, A600, A500:nervous

fitzsteve 06 May 2021 17:31

I've never binned an Amiga but I'm sure my original Spectrum +2 got thrown out as it was broken. I was young so I can blame parents for that. I did however bin all the big boxes for my PC games and just kept the CDs, that's something I regret now but we were moving to a smaller flat at the time and I didn't have space for them, was early 2000s

no or almost...
all my unused material (SCHNEIDER 664 /AMSDRAD 664 clone, A500, A600, Action Replay MK2 & +200 amiga original disks) was donated to a RETRO GAMING association near me.

the 'almost' is for having thrown in the trash an old 1084S working (but working, just to recap) to replace it by a rotten 1083 of an A600 :guru:crying

CFou! 06 May 2021 18:01

a friend threw in the trash a new CD32, she had only known in his CD player a few loads of Microcosm and Ultimate Body blows .. he preferred to use his a1200 :crying

jotd 06 May 2021 18:42

if first experience of the CD32 is microcosm with original CD32 pad I can understand why.

manossg 06 May 2021 19:34

Thankfully I kept my A500. But to this day I regret selling my Amstrad CPC 464 and 6128. :(

I have a few non-working A1200 boards with non-repairable faults like broken and ripped traces which I've scavenged parts from onto new working boards. Dunno if I should bin these old boards or just hold onto them.
