Unused Connectors/Ports

On the 1200 there are various connectors that are not used (see pic)

Does anyone know what they were for and if they can be used?

I think it was for second meg of chipram, asi it was planned as upgrade for one meg a1200.
lucky it was released with 2mb chipram i all revisions

So could this be used for anything?

There are others on the mobo too.. TP1, TP2 and TP3

if you look at the connector for the 1a mobo you'll see the connector is still present

I do believe anything marked as TPxx is actually a Test Point connector and/or pad for just that, testing and diagnostics of the circuit board ;)

i soldered my own reset button on the back of my a12, it was connected to
TP2 -0 (ground) and TP2 - 3.

worked a treat.

I was under the impression that P9A and P9B were just clockports (four of them) i noted similar traces for this is upon the Z4 winner & elbox busboards.

@Zetr0

Those ARE clockports, you´re right :)

BippyM 24 July 2006 04:02

Zetr0 this reset button sounds like a good idea..

Wanna elaborate.. do I just solder the 2 wires?

Does that mean a header can be dropped in and a clockport card used?

You can solder some pins there and use clockport expansions, yup :)

BippyM 24 July 2006 13:21

S does that mean you could have say 2 different clockport expansions connected at same time?

Hmmmm.. interesting

Zetr0 25 July 2006 02:52

depends on if there left or right handed (pins 1 - 20 -left or pins 21 - 40 -right)

i believe that one of the problems on the elbox / z4 winners even though they have 4 clock ports only 2 are right handed - i have a prelude on one and good ideas on the other ;)

i think there is a few left handed clockport dongles but i cannot remeber for the life of me now.

jimbo100 26 July 2006 03:00

Can I ask what a clockport is? I have heard this term before and seen expansions but have no idea what a Clockport is and what it does?

Zetr0 26 July 2006 13:28

from times agoa, i belive all that was planned for it was infact a battery backed up clock, and hence the name clock port.

there was such a device made i belive, and since it only used the half a header that just what they get to be named i believe.

of course i could be seriously wrong lol.

patrik 26 July 2006 13:41

@Zetr0:
Yeah, when the A1200 was quite new, I had one of those battery backed RTC cards, which you connected to the clockport. I think it was made by DKB, but I could be wrong.

(edit):
I think I found it.

Zetr0 26 July 2006 13:56

Thats the one!!!

good shot patrik! :)

I do remeber another though, it used a drum barrel type battery, i think thwey were in the first batch of A12's with hard disks..

an old friend used to have one (noted after we upgraded the 20MB hdd to 170) ... sheesh that was a long time ago...

I also remeber my friend leaving the computer (A12) on over the weekend just to render a 340Frame animation in Imagine!
