Yet another A1200 Tower project
So - as I've discovered over the last four months - getting back into the Amiga scene, but this time round being an Adult with disposable income, is quite good fun!
I already owned a lot of kit, but back when I was buying it there wasn't a lot of spare cash around for me to get exactly what I wanted. This time round however :evilgrin The current specs:
I'm sure I've forgotten bits and pieces, but this is all boring text, so here's the nice bit. Not least of which is a colour change for the rather yellowing Tower! :agree Any tips/comments/abuse are more than welcome :laughing |
I've never been à fond of this ugly piece of plastic tower but you did yourself a great setup! Congrats!
I also appreciate the funding ability that being a mature adult give me now, compared to the old times... haha Have fun! Where do you display games? Switch? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Nice build!

It's definitely not a pretty tower, that's for sure. It doesn't help that the plastics have very clearly aged, and on top of that it survived a flood in my parents house so the base plate is rather rusty in places. It was just high enough off the ground that none of the electronics inside were affected! I was really very very lucky there. |
What model Corsair power supply are you using?

Finally go round to doing it, Tower (fascia) is now very much black!

Looks like you got a good finish on there!
What did you use plasti-kote or something else? |
I used Vinyl Dye - comes in a tin like this:
http://www.indigolemon.co.uk/linkedi.../vinyl_dye.jpg The solvents in the tin soften the surface of the plastic, and allow the dye to impregnate the material. This makes it a lot more hard wearing that paint, as the first mm or so is actually black. It does mean that even though it is touch dry in ten minutes, you are best to leave it a good few hours to properly harden up again. I've since swapped in my black zip drive, and added a case badge Daedalus kindly gave me - just the LEDs to sort out so I can see them from above now! http://www.indigolemon.co.uk/linkedi...ower_badge.jpg |
Very Nice! :D
|
Bye bye beige! Finally got round to wrapping the outer shell in vinyl :)

It looks very nice to me! :D

Really nicely done. Congrats.

Looks kinda cool, I'm curious though, is this a standard case or did you get a custom rear panel made?
I'm just looking at building a LianLi cased A500 and one problem I found was the rear case doesnt quite give enough space for all the ports! |
It was a kit sold by Power Computing, see here: http://www.amigahistory.plus.com/powercom.html
Really, it's just a standard ATX tower with a custom backplate, and some extra holes in the plate that holds the motherboard so it can accept the A1200 mainboard. |
there's also someone on amibay who sells them, or at least there was a year ago.
|
Yeah, I've seen that post too - would be the way I'd go if this tower hadn't been salvageable. Guy did a good job getting them laser cut :)
|
Very nice :)
I've got the same tower, but mine looks totally naff now!! I bought it back in the 90s and it's rarely even attacked with a duster.... |
