Hired Guns for CD32??

Hi all, we recently did an interview with Steve Hammond of DMA fame and discovered is has the source code of an unreleased version on Hired Guns for CD32, was this already known?

Interview Here is this is ok?

Very interesting, this definitely needs to be rescued! Maybe it uses 256 color AGA graphics from the DOS version of Hired Guns.

Cherno 15 August 2016 07:32

There has been talk about the unreleased AGA version of Hired Guns here on the forum, which lists some more features.

Amigajay 15 August 2016 09:41

Would be great to have this version released in some form, I'm currently working on a CD32 pack with this game in it, but it will need adding some keyboard commands to the pad.
Plus it would be interesting to know if they converted the save games into passwords for the unreleased CD32 version?

Solo Kazuki 01 September 2016 20:50

If it's not a secret, is there somebody who does something with this case?
Worrying is that Sony have copyrights and probably it will be hardest thing.

@Amigajay
If there are passwords, i assume they will be very long. Password should include team experience, places of team members, all inventory with items/ammo quantity, monsters (alive/killed), etc. Maybe there are begin of level passwords, without most of mentioned features.

I'm sure Sony doesn't know anything about Hired Guns and other old Psygnosis IP's. If not fans approach Sony we won't have Shadow of the Beast reboot. I would love to see Hired Guns AGA version.

Predseda 01 September 2016 22:09

Never underestimate Sony if it is going on copyrights and IP protection. Sony used to be very destructive!

Gzegzolka 02 September 2016 10:31

Predseda do You have any examples of aggressive actions of Sony against fans? I still do not think we are doing here anything bad, we are talking about Hired Guns, this game was already released many years ago and only difference is that there is different version for AGA. Not totally new game, written from nothing, for those days pc's, that will be sold or use current Sony IP's stuff like characters and assets.

Yeah they would have simplified them to as you say start of level, basic features held.
I'm still waiting to hear back from Steve, I'll message him again tonight.

Predseda 02 September 2016 12:22

IMHO not possible, because at least inventory of each participant is critical for the game.

Are there any news about Hired Guns CD32? Did you receive any answer?

No haven't received an answer, I wouldn't get any hopes up for now.

...and be patient.

No point in hammering the guy with e-mails / questions / requests every week.

I mean, if he needs to go somewhere like his parents house to find the disks / media it could take a few weeks / months.

Solo Kazuki 20 September 2016 21:53

I'm afraid that's not the case. I think there's Sony IP case, not data find/recovery. Just read what Steve Hammond told in interview - he have data already.

Scott Johnston, who was writing it, no longer had an Amiga and so he sent the hard drive to me so that I could take a back up and ensure that it wasn’t lost forever. I’d love to release it if I was allowed to. If you have any contacts within Sony - who I think own the IP - then please let me know…
For me it's obvious, that he have some IP which belongs to Sony and need first some acceptance.

Lorfarius 27 January 2018 16:31

He's just spoken on the Retro Hour podcast. Really wants to get this out there. Sony can't still want it, pretty worthless for a new license surely?

Amiga1992 29 January 2018 16:09

I sure hope it would get out!

DDNI 20 February 2018 18:38

Here's hoping that a release is imminent!

Dan Wood of Retro Hour has been given access to it as far as i'm aware, so whether it gets released on the back of that I don't know.

Sony is very protective over their IP, but considering they've only revisted Shadow of the Beast and nothing else, I doubt very much Hired Guns is even on their radar.

DDNI 20 February 2018 21:28

Was this release just a hacked A1200 version for the CD32?

Anachronist 20 February 2018 22:52

!! I would be over the moon if this was released. The interview isn't coming up in the original link, has it been moved?
