ECS and OCS

I've wondered for a long time... in what way is the ECS actually 'enhanced' relative to the OCS?

Were there any games which took advantage of this improvement (i.e. would run on an A500+ or A600, but not a 1MB A500)?

Not for games, but demos : http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=46116

Ta! From that link:

Features from the Kickstart 2 operating system were occasionally used for later games, and since these two technologies largely overlap, some users overestimate the ECS' significance.
Are there any games anyone knows of that were Kickstart 2+ only?

A few games took advantage of the 60hz mode, lemmings if you pressed one of the keys, and more annoyingly bomberman which didnt give you a choice, problem been my tv when i was kid couldn't support it.

Wasn't there some which required 1MB Chip so not running on 0.5+0.5 MB A500?

I know settlers configured itself to what the spec of the machine was by limiting the sound effect and music depending on how much chip and fast ram you had

The Red Sector GGS Cractro - The logo was RED on A500 but changed colours on A500+ was this to do with ECS.

Yeah 3D FPS games which supported ECS: Gloom Deluxe, Fears..

But games that supported ECS (64 colours) would be games that did not need rapid screen updates because of the standard 68k cpu so non arcade games i.e Black Crypt

Just saw the EHB is not an ECS mode, just some A1000 does not support it.

What's 11 years on a site which honors computer systems that are easily 30-40 years old :)

I was mentioning a few of these games (commercial titles) in another thread : Minskies Furballs, Theatre Of Death, not to forget Larry I remake. Similarly, there are few freebies that fall into that category : Sneech, Super Bob Dylan (a Giana Sisters like), Biplane Duel etc. A couple of cracktros too (I identified two actually, there may be more) : Winter Games (1987)(Epyx)[f AGA Fix & Foxi] and Sensible World of Soccer '95-'96 (1995-12-01)(Renegade)[cr QTX] .

Nope, just the usual 1 meg.

Overdoc 30 November 2021 00:12

Hare Raising Havoc needed 1MB chipram on the Amiga 500 if I remember correctly?
But other from that, it was OCS and kick 1.3, but needed to be installed on a harddisk.

Oops.. not sure what happened there but somehow I screwed up the QTX intro that had been used many times before and added something that broke it for older kickstart 1.x :confused

dodke 30 November 2021 13:55

Rise of the Robots (:P) ECS version requires 1MB chip and on the packaging it specifically says Amiga 500+/600/1500/2000/3000. The floppy disks are labeled for "Amiga 600".

some games in floppy disk required kickstart 1.3, but after installing on hdd with their internal installer and agreed with manual, they required kick 2.x). I found some of that games, but now i not remember what games.

Technically some early Amiga models (Amiga later called A1000) use ICS Denise where EHB is not implemented, CBM quickly introduced OCS Denise and it was possible to swap ICS Denise with OCS Denise)

*ouch* What happened after? Did you have to re release a 101% fix or just update the patched disk01.dms file?

I guess this is where the bug is where you had to add to end of copperlist to the end of the copperlist?
