Freesync monitor recommendations

Anyone know any good freesync/gsync monitors which work well with WinUAE for PAL and NTSC screen modes?
I am based in UK, looking to spend as little as possible. I find many descriptions online do not show the frequencies supported by the units.
Thanks

This one looks like it goes from 48 - 75 Hz so should work ok?

Not necessarily, check this thread: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=105716, especially from post #12 onwards.

I see no reason why 48-75Hz FreeSync monitor wouldn't work ok...

It should work but I am not sure if 48Hz is low enough. It is quite close to 50Hz which could cause glitches if for some reason some frame is too long due to something stealing time from emulation.

Sigh...guess I was right the first time then and have to edit that post again.

If I can run WinUAE with no buffer without tearing - is there any benefit to a VRR monitor for WinUAE?

I wouldn't buy a new monitor (and potentially graphics card) if you are experiencing no problems ;) This is more for IF you need a new monitor, then what do you look for.

The linked other thread has a lot of wisdom on the topic.

Thanks for the reply, sorry I was getting confused. I can get WinUAE with no buffer without tearing using Low Latency Vsync in WinUAE 3.4.

But the problem with vsync is that the audio will eventually fall out of sync with a pop - correct?

So if I get a VRR monitor I will get tear free screen with no buffer AND without the inevitable audio pop - correct?

I think this is the bottom line

If not vsync: emulation is synced to audio, in other words, emulator waits if previous audio buffer is not yet available. This causes emulator to usually run very slightly slower than real hardware (in real world time, emulated program does not see anything wrong)

if vsync: synced to video, audio is expected to run in sync but in reality it isn't fully in sync and can cause periodic glitches. This needs improvements. (two sync sources: very difficult task)

Currently most stable setup is variable refresh monitor (gsync/freesync) because it works like vsync but it is monitor that follows emulator's frame timing (there is only one sound source: sound) which is opposite to normal vsync where emulator needs to follow the display frame timing.

I have already repeated this many times but here it is again: if you use emulators, get gsync(compatible)/freesync monitor! (But check the specs first, some very basic freesync monitors only have frequency range of something like 60 to 75 or so which is useless for PAL emulation)

Original low latency vsync mode was added to WinUAE after this thread: https://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=58900

Very interesting old discussion in this thread

I have realised this would involve getting a new gfx card... ouch. Especially at the current time.
