KGLoad - Help Needed

Hi guys,

I need some of your help :)

I need screenshots for every single game in my packs.

I have permission from HOL and GameBase Amiga to use their shots, but even then I still do not have time to go through and download/copy only the ones featured in my packs.

They then of course need to be renamed to match the folder names inside my packs. (Each one is unique).

I know this is no small feat but if people are willing to help that would be great.

Initially one title shot and one screenshot would be enough, but it may be worthwhile getting more in game shots (3?) straight off the bat to save going back and getting more in the future.

They do not need converting to iff as I will do this myself using my scripts and wizardry, simple png will do.

as for naming, take Ruff N Tumble for example (as always):

RuffNTumble_title.png
RuffNTumble_ingame1.png
RuffNTumble_ingame2.png
RuffNTumble_ingame3.png

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Mmh, isn't it possible to use your DAT files for the mass picture renaming and filtering from the HOL/GBA screenshot packs? In combiniation with a tricky batch, script file or tool? :confused

I gave the EmuControlCenter some console/computer screenshot packs ages ago. They converted it really fast, don't think they manually filtered or renamed the picture packs to match it with their frontend name syntax.

I'm in ! That's actually what I want to do.

For batch renaming files I use a freeware named The Rename. I also import txt or excel spreadsheets to correct folders content with it.

Retro-Nerd 04 March 2009 19:50

Pretty cool waal. I hope it works as you've expected. Would be nice to have a full KGLoad screenshot pack. :great

killergorilla 04 March 2009 19:54

Of course it's possible but I don't have time to do it right now and I could do with the screenshots sooner rather than later :)

They need to be named exactly the same as the foldernames from my packs as it'll make it about 1000x easier for me :great

Batch renaming in itself isn't helpful here unless you are parsing the file names against some kind of comparison list which links my foldernames to the HOL Ids or something similar. (Which is something I don't have :D)

Basically I don't care how it's done, I just need the files named right and on my HDD!

Here's how I take the name of one of your WHDLoad pack (which I use) in a minute :

1000ccTurbo
1000Miglia
1943
3001OConnorsFight
3DGalax
3DPool
4DSportsBoxing
4DSportsDriving&MstrTrcks
4DSportsDriving
4x4OffRoadRacing
5thGear
688AttackSub
7Colors
9Lives

Then I can apply those name to target folders containing images for the boxes and for the screenshots. Of course, I'll have to work letter by letter and step by step. But there's is a gain of time. I still have to grab the image files and number them at save so that they can be sorted in the same order.

Anyway, it has to be done !

Seems that resident EAB member Jason has sent me a php script to automatically rename the screenshots from the GameBase Amiga project (cheers Belgarath for taking all these screenshots in the first place) into the correct naming scheme I want.

I've yet to test it out but I will take a look as soon as I get the chance.

waal 05 March 2009 18:18

Sounds good. Please let me know if it works. Otherwise, I'll be available the next three days.

I'm happy to help out if needed.
If HOL don't mind the use, can we just download and rename those screenshots?

I'll do Z.

killergorilla 05 March 2009 19:08

That would be possible but only people with HOL access rights can get non-watermarked images (without asking the HOL guys).

You'd need to ask Cody for a non-watermarked batch of all the images with whdload installs or something similar :D

r0jaws 05 March 2009 19:39

Ok, I'll give him an email.

killergorilla 06 March 2009 00:47

Ok cool :)

That was easy!

r0jaws 06 March 2009 13:41

Adrian was most obliging and sent me the screenshots requested for the Z package.
Give me a PM with your email KG and I'll send across the renamed files for you zipped up.
If no-one else is forthcoming I'll ask for Y and X next.

killergorilla 06 March 2009 13:54

cheers mate, send them to kgwhdload ATAATATATATATATATATATA blueyonder.co.uk

I'd hold back on doing any more right now, Jason might be sending me a dat that'll work with the gamebase files and save a LOT of time in the long run.

As soon as I have the lot together I'll host them on my site.

i want help but i donot how.. via winuae screnshots (ingame ) is ok?
we need a form for standard size pic ect..

killergorilla 06 March 2009 15:18

Thanks for offers of help.

For screenshots, I'd recommend you all hold back until I get a chance this weekend to check out Jason's dat/php script. It may save us all time.

If someone could start collecting together boxart though that'd be really helpful.
It doesn't need to be sized at all, just renamed if possible, I can size them all myself as I see fit.

Anemos 06 March 2009 15:26

ok we wait orders

killergorilla 09 March 2009 12:01

Right, I now have an 'almost' complete set of png images with correct names.

Jason sent me a dat over which I've used to rename all of the Gamebase Amiga screenshots, which is pretty much a complete set.

I will need to go through and take shots for the CD32 versions of games, as well as getting some extra shots for games which only have a title screenshot. This shouldn't take long at all.

Gamebase Amiga has a decent amount of boxart as well so I'll take a look at this soon.
