New UAE frontend

I paste here a message from the euae mailing list:

Quote:

Hi everyone,
a few days ago I discovered Lemonade, that nice WinUAE frontend. I was very
annoyed by the fact that it is - as usual - closed source and Windows-only,
so I sat down and started developing a similar program to address these
issues.

You can see the first results here:
http://www.sukkology.net/misc/screenshot56.png

Of course, the name "Orangeade" is a pun :) . Better suggestions are welcome.
Basically, my program tries to mix the data of the TOSEC and Lemonade
databases, providing as many info as possible about every game.

Many things are not implemented yet. Actually, at the moment you can only
browse the database like you see in the picture.

I'm just writing this mail to get some feedback. If anybody feels the program
might be useful, please say so. I will continue development only if enough
people will be interested in the program. Some help, would be appreciated,
too ;) .

Note that the program is GPL and uses the GTK+ toolkit, which means it can
easily be ported to other OSs, like Windows and MacOS X (I'm developing on
GNU/Linux). Oh, and I didn't ask for permission to use the databases, I will
do so if I continue development.

Cya!
Since i don't know if he has time enought to read even here, if you are interested in this project you can encourage him sending a mail at his address:

Wow....looks promising. Hopefully it has SPS support and / or the option to integrate your own games. Seems to be lacking in Lemonade. I am by far a programmer....so can't help.

Cheers and keep up the good work.

GameBase Amiga has had SPS support from the beginning and soon it will have WHD support as well...

Additionally, Gamebase Amiga doesn't require you to go online in order to get the database. Everything is available to you offline.

For those that haven't tried Gamebase Amiga yet, please do so. Those of you used to frontends (eg. MAME32) will love it. You get the best ADFs (so you know you don't need to worry about a bad crack, well, hopefully), hints/tips/walkthroughs, screenshots, music (playable in Deliplayer for Windows), Instructions and box scans, all in a simple to use interface.
The games are each preconfigured too! No more messing around with configurations. Double click on a game, and it'll magically run. Need to switch disks? No problem. The disk swapper is loaded with each of the disks. When you're asked to switch, just switch disks using the disk swapper using a few clicks (or a few keypresses if you know them).
And with WHDLoad support coming, this is a must have for all WinUAE users.

In short, those of you that want HOL in an offline form, this is it. It contains info about each game, screenshots and sometimes even box scans. Being able to double click on a game to launch it is a nice side effect :)

I just felt like saying all of that seeing as how GBAmiga is seldom brought up.

Couldn't agree more, this project deserves a bit more publicity :)

There are couple of things that bugs me with Amiga GB.

First is install. Then uprades trough downloads.

It would make a sense, since all of us mostly have online computers to have screen shot uploads option simillar to OfflineList. Same goes for DB update.

That project seems prommising.

my install of gamebase amiga has gone broken ages ago (as i reported in another thread) and i never successfully fixed it. i hope for a new version that i'll clean-install, or maybe MAGE.

He, he, he ;)

It has been a while since it's been brought up as we are all waiting for the overdue release of MAGE... See the project.MAGE section for more details :great

Isn't that right eLowar + Belgarath ;)

I'm not sure what that's like. Is that like a community thing? If so then there are certain issues with quality control. Maybe a mixed solution would be better? "Pictures" and "Community Pictures" or something of that sort.

Ahem, yeah... Since I haven't addressed that yet (thanks for bringing it up :p)... Sorry about previous delays, I got ambushed by real life, but I'm back, however I'm not making any more time estimations. ;)

Work on parts of GameBase Amiga is now parallel with MAGE development. That is to say, some MAGE Amiga components, such as WHD support, will be released with the next GameBase Amiga (Belgarath, as the one creating the database, will set the exact date for that).

Everything else will be revealed in the fullness of time.

DamienD 02 March 2007 02:51

Sorry eLowar, I wasn't having a go or trying to prevoke a response / explanation from you ;)

Both yourself and Belgarath are going a most excellent job with Gamebase Amiga and Mage.

Both projects take a shite load of dedication and effort that we can't even begin to imagine... You're both doing this for the good of the Amiga community in your own personal time without getting paid. I take my hat off to you guys :bowdown :bowdown :bowdown

I've said to Belgarath on a few occations if there is anything I can do to help / assist then please let me know (as I'm sure many others would) ;)

As for time estimates / deadlines, real life gets in the way for everybody... Take your time and work at your own pace, I'm sure that whenever it arrives it will be an awesome product :great

It's not like community pictures thing. It is controlled, but updates are done with easy mouse button click on update button. It will check DB and update if needed and after that it will download screenshots if required. Much easier to add the games that way.

You can check it at this link.

Screenshot of update option:

Ah, just live updates then, well that's worth considering.
