Wanted: FileMaster 3.2 Beta 3

Looking for the last version of this simple, but effective filemanager. Can anyone help? (I can find the beta 2, but want the beta 3)

Thanks

Luke

Lukeya 13 October 2020 10:53

Hedeon

What search did you do on Google for this? I couldn't find this at all, although a Swedish server did show me Beta 2

Guys, just speak to Toni Wilen on this very forum, he wrote Filemaster

Sure, but he now already has beta 3. Or maybe Toni has some unreleased stuff, that would be cool.

I haven't had any official archives for ages.. And latest available sources was released long time ago.

Hedeon did very well to find it! :cool I imagine the search terms used had to be quite specific. For example, something like these Google searches:

It begs the question as to why all versions of Filemaster 3.x (certainly all the 3.2 beta versions) appear to have been removed from the main Aminet servers?

They're not the only ones by a long shot. For instance, there are lots of files contained on the official Aminet CDs that are no longer present on Aminet and there seems to be no good reason why as they don't violate any of their guidelines. Additionally, quite a lot of files seem to have disappeared from Aminet since the Aminet CDs have been discontinued without good reason.

I know they've had more than a couple instances of server problems in recent years where they've irretrievably lost files that had been previously available for download. However, some appear to have been removed without any legitimate reason and have to be sourced, if at all possible, from old Aminet mirrors or Archive.org.

Such a pity that Aminet is a shadow of the stellar repository it once was for Amiga users. It's still great, for mine, but not nearly as great as it used to be! :(

Many thanks for all your replies, and particularly to Toni Wilen and Stefan Kummerow for work in this nice File Manager.

I must say I'm a little disappointed by Aminet myself. I'm not sure who runs it or why it has been stripped of so many files.

Is it worth buying the CDs? What would constitute a good collection of them (are there many CDs?)

Anyway - thanks to all, again

I was in contact with the author of NewFileMaster some time back when I was also searching for beta 3.

Apparently there is a feud between the author CHRKUM and a certain Aminet maintainer and thus this author's software was deleted from Aminet.

His software, including NewFileMaster is currently available from:
http://camiga.bplaced.net/Prog.html

It is not probable that CHRKUM will return to Amiga development.

NewFileMaster deserves some future development though, it is currently the best version of FM3 we have for the 68k machines.

@Jope
Thanks for the behind the scenes story and weblink! :blased I bet I could hazard a guess at which Aminet maintainer it was that the feud was with! :p I gather that despite the feud that CHRKUM would've still opted for his software to be available on Aminet then?

In any case, you're so right with your last point....further development of NewFileMaster would be very much welcomed by the Amiga masses currently in existence! :agree

Hi Guys,
do you also have a problem with FileMaster crashing when I try to configure the middle menu buttons? I try to copy a button, then choose "Edit configurarion" and there's always a crash. Be it on 060 or 030, 3.2 beta3 or 3.1 beta9 doesn't matter...

Jope 20 April 2021 13:43

You need to install bgui.library and its gadgets

https://aminet.net/package/dev/gui/bgui

Jacques 20 April 2021 13:51

You're absolutely right, I've only copied bgui.library itself, stupid me. Thanks!

This is great. Filemaster 3.0 was my goto file shuffler for years (unregistered version) and when i saw this thread a while back it made me seek out if there was a newer version around. Found Tonis last release (v3.0 B 2.1 020 Registered) with the free key and have updated my main disk with it. Works great.

But i also wanted to try this other guys enhanced version and could not get it to work. I installed the bgui lib and its extra files but the program always told me it was the wrong bgui version, or it couldn't be found. So i gave up and have been using Tonis last version ever since.

If anyone makes a working ADF of the newest shiniest version of FileMaster by this other guy, that would be very cool :)
