Options to speed up games on my A1200

Hi y'all.

As stated in this old thread http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=55427 I'm experiencing a bit of framerate drops when playing WHDLoad games on my A1200.

The way I understand the issue is that games that are not coded to be run from FastMem will suffer from framerate drops, but if that's the case, what are the difference then between a good and a bad accelerator, as long as they both have plenty of RAM for the FastMem running games?

Since people generally don't know my Digital Computing 16MB accelerator, I was wondering if I could benefit by replacing it with a better accelerator, ie. a Blizzard or something..?

Will buying an ACA Card actually do the trick, because it frees up the chipmem by loading kickstart directly from the accelerator? Or did I misunderstand this? https://icomp.de/shop-icomp/en/shop/...pu=68030.40%2B

If it's because of those games that have slow downs in WHDload (Zool2 AGA, SWIV etc) then I don't think an accelerator will help.

My A1200 has fast ram so runs pretty quickly. Zool 2 AGA WHDload has terrible slow downs, but when run from floppy it works perfectly.

Some games have slowdown in WHDLoad which does not appear in the original if the slave-coder had a much faster (or different architecture) processor and didn't notice the slowdown.

Turrican III used to be unplayable on a 68000 processor for example. Until Psygore fixed the slave.

If you find places where the WHDload version slows down but the floppy disk version runs at full speed then report the slave using the WHDload Mantis bug tracker.

Looking at JOTDs post (#16) from the linked thread, it seems he is saying some games would need extensive hacking to run correctly, rather than a faster accelerator.

What if the game you want is not on the bug tracker? That list doesn't seem to have everything.

I think all the slaves should be listed. Sounds like a bug in Mantis :)

However you CAN select "WHDload Installs Games" to report a bug.

It's not a mantis bug. When a game slave never had an original bug report on whdload.de create a new one on mantis. Wepl already transfered all the old bug reports to mantis iirc.

Edit: Or maybe you have to create a completely new bug report on whdload.de and then Wepl transfers it to mantis. That's probably the current way for games that never had a bug report before.

For most of these games, a bug report will not help. As the amount of reworking to prevent the slow downs on faster Amigas is no small task.

Although I guess it's good to have the bug officially listed for the game.
