Outrun AGA
Back in January, DJ Metune shared a picture of an icy road, which sparked off a conversation in the 1942 dev team about driving games on the Amiga, and how bad the Amiga Outrun conversion was. Since then we have been looking into converting Outrun, and are now announcing the project.
The conversion will be for AGA machines only. An OCS version may happen later if the AGA versions is succesful, and we believe in delivering something playable on OCS. The team is the same as 1942, myself coding, Nightshft on assets/misc, and DJ METUNE on music. Even though we already invested a lot of time into the investigation, it will still take us a long time to complete. Probably about a year. Stay tuned for more information coming soon. |
Exciting!

This sounds great! Good luck with this. Outrun is definitely one of the nastiest Amiga arcade ports and by starting AGA only I wonder how close to the arcade you can get? Exciting!

Really looking forward to this !

Great news!

Have some ideas on use a similar engine for a cyberpunk version of it in conjuction with what was the disappointing Outdrive on Steam, included some techno and sorta-synthwave musics :)
|
That would be fantastic and much needed for Amiga :)

did 1942 got released?
I heard a DJMetune conversion of the "magical sound shower" music it was just... impressive. I hope you can do something proper. After all Lotus II was ECS/68000, by chosing AGA and not too many colors you can do something playable. Good luck, I'll be following this ambitious project |

AND i remember Koyot1222 had some graphic tests for similar stuff

Any screenshots to tease us with? Or it's too early for that?
|
Fingers crossed for you to have a successful OutRun ;)

I tried the original on whdload the other day- seemed ok but a bit slow and it stuttered somewhat. I have not played the arcade version in years though.
|
Nice! This would be great!
|
Good luck with this. I play it on my Saturn a couple of times a week, love it! Any improvement on the Amiga original which I can play on my CD32 will be good!
|
Not to sound too negative, but wouldn't it be more helpful to announce something when you have a working demo or something? ;)
|
At least he has a 'track' record for getting things done though.
One thing I wonder, with A1200 memory expansions now being common and cheap, could development be for A1200 +fast ram? If commodore had lived, I expect 1995 would be when they moved to that format. |
