TV card as scandoubler

I'm trying to get my Amiga 1200 tower to show native amiga screenmodes through mediator and voodoo using tv card as seen on this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-AjKgNPRvOI
Is it possible to do this without whdload?

Daedalus 03 October 2022 12:27

WHDLoad doesn't really factor into it - any software that can launch from Workbench and uses the native screenmodes can be viewed through the TV card if the software is already running. The only thing that's special about this is that the script for launching the game also launches the TV software. That's easy to do though... I used this a bit back in the day before I got a proper scandoubler.

I tried a similar trick using a PC TV card (on a PC). It worked. But it came at a price of some noticeable lag, and a bit of blurriness.

The simple answer is “Yes” Bromigo! I have a setup that uses a Hauppage TV card.

You just need a TV card that has the right chipset as per the Elbox support page;

http://www.elbox.com/mediator_driver_guide.html

And the “SuperTV” software;

http://www.elbox.com/downloads_mediator.html

All I do at the moment, until I get around to making scripts. Is use this for native Amiga output for “Sysinfo” etc.. By running SuperTV then running a native Amiga Program. You can then use (Left AmigaKey) + (M key) to switch. You may need to change the “Monitor chain” option for your RTG card, so the screen doesn’t blank.

I have pinnacle systems PCTV which should be compatible according to elbox site. I'm trying to get the picture through the composite input of the tv card but i get nothing. How do you change the monitor chain?

Hi author of video here.
I installed the Elbox drivers first, then downloaded and installed SuperTV and selected the composite input. I don't think I changed anything in the Picasso96 settings. To get it to start automatically, just edit the whdload start script in S:

Bromigo! Looks like you wanted to run sysinfo? As it’s only showing the bottom half of the screen?

Which RTG card are you using? Voodoo or Radeon

You aren’t using any sort of Mode promotion software, like Modepro?

As a tester, is your composite working correctly on the motherboard?

The TV card is setup correctly in SuperTV? I.e you are using the correct NTSC or PAL region?

Have you upgraded the MMCD to MMCD V2.6? Also pci.library is on 13.10?

I'm using voodoo 3 3000, I have the most recent mediator files, no mode promotion, composite is working and im using PAL BGDHI.
Also the bottom part of sysinfo cant be interacted with.

I have now confirmed that the composite input of the tv card is also working and so is the s-video port. I hooked up my vcr player and tested both ports in supertv.

The question still remains why it won't show amiga's own composite output?

Okay. A nice tool to add is the “Medication” program. This allows you to change the Voodoo card settings;

https://web.archive.org/web/20040603...3rdparty.shtml

You may have a setting that’s conflicting. I.e try to change the “Fake native” mode for example. It’s a useful tool. You can hover over each option with the mouse pointer and it will give you an explanation of each setting etc..

Not to teach you to suck eggs. But you have run the “Medconfig” and gone through “configuration” etc..?

Also remember you can switch screens with (Left Amiga) and pressing “M” keys.

It works! I tried turning on the fakenativemodes and then back off and it somehow fixed it :p
Thank you!

is a good idea , but also you can obtain a much better native image connecting the A1200 to the TV card using the SVHS port instead composite

you need an Amiga SuperVHS video adapter o make yourself one

Do you still happen to have these scripts?
I have no experience in scripting.
For example, if i open supertv and then open worms directors cut game, how do i get it to go fullscreen automatically?

Daedalus 10 October 2022 10:37

I'll have to dig them out, but I'm sure I have them somewhere. From memory though, there's an ARexx command that sets it to fullscreen mode. ARexx is a great scripting language, and it's pretty simple to learn. The steps it needs to do are something like this:
- Run SuperTV
- Wait for the ARexx port to appear
- Set to AV channel
- Set to fullscreen mode
- Run Worms: DC
- Quit SuperTV

You can then save that with an icon so all you need to do is launch it.

Ooohhhhh! Sounds good Bromigo! Any chance when you find them upping them to the Zone? :great
