DVD's for sale!
 

Ok i know they are not games or even Amiga related but i want them gone :D

Aren't most BluRay releases of older films just DVD quality on BluRay media?

Even older movies on Blu-ray have been remastered for 1080P... some still retain 5.1 sound while most new films get 7.1 :) There really would be no point sticking a DVD quality movie on a Blu-ray disc :nuts

Anyway i do have upgrade fever after seeing and hearing Blu-ray quality in comparison to watching upscaled DVD's on a 1080P screen :D

Most old films were filmed on 35mm which is a higher resolution than 1080p so they need downscaling to start with. This may help.

It would be a LOT cheaper for the film companies. Plus they could bring out yet another version in a few years time.

If there will be no difference in picture and sound quality then they would be better off keeping the movie on DVD as Blu-ray players also play DVD's (with upscaling).

@seuden 35mm content will also need cleaning up before being put on DVD or Blu-ray... New films are starting to use IMAX cameras that use 65mm film :shocked (Dark Knight for example).

As with every movie there will always be cleaning up or post production before transferring to DVD, Blu-Ray or Digital Format :)

Dark Knight looks friggin awesome in 1080p. :)

I recently watched Buster Keaton's The General on Blu Ray. It's a 1927 film but the Blu Ray transfer is from a 35mm print - and it looks really spectacular with lots more detail. There are some comparison screenshots in this review:

The print isn't remastered but it seems that it was in good shape.

Another older film which looks amazing on Blu Ray is 1964's Zulu. The picture is very sharp and full of colour.

By the way, where are all the older films in your DVD list?

The majority of my collection has been sold so all i have left are the ones listed... the only other old movies i have are Japanese/Chinese martial arts movies from various years (im keeping them for now :))

I've found it can be a mixed bag on older films. Some stills look better on standard DVD and vice versa.

A lot of it is marketing carp to maximise profits. I also have the feeling that less and less stuff will be transferred to Blu as to previous standard DVD format unless the demand is there :sad Some films I'm after are yet to be released to standard :crying

I'm waiting for UHD when it comes mainstream. 4280P! :cheese Apparently it's only 10 years off :)

Well Blu-ray seems the way forward at the moment for anyone using 1080P screens :agree Watching DVD's over scart on a large HD tv looks abysmal... DVD upscaling via HDMI looks a bit better but still nothing compared to true 1080P Blu-ray quality :)

HD-DVD no longer exists and there is nothing else to compete with Blu-ray for 1080P movie content (except maybe HD movie downloads).

Anyway regarding my DVD's for sale i'm willing to accept accept £250 for the whole lot! (would have been £317 so thats a £67 discount ;)). This includes free UK postage.

84 individual DVD movies (mostly limited or special editions) and 20 box sets! All in immaculate condition and great for anyone who wishes to re-sell them on ebay and make a large profit (I would but cannot be arsed :D).

I'm now looking for just £200 for everything... I want them gone soon as possible :)
