NetBSD/amigappc

Hi.

Do anyone ever tried to install amigappc version of NetBSD?

I have a CyberstormPPC, made swap and root partitions, transferred miniroot to swap. After this I used runbootblock command to start from swap partition.

Boot prompt appear, but it couldn't start a kernel.

AmigaPPC port existing for about 20 years and still no any installation instructions in the internet.

I'm nearly too embarrassed to reply, but yes... I'm more or less responsible for the current state of the amigappc port. :(

I did a lot of work on it during 2009 and 2010, based on the initial work of Adam Ciarcinski around 2000. But it's so long ago that I only remember that most drivers never reached a stable state. From my log file 2009:
Code:

Status:
A CSPPC machine probably boots into single user, but only few devices
will attach without problems (e.g. keyboard, serial, parallel, floppy disk,
the RTC, CC graphics, sometimes Ariande ethernet and A4000 IDE.
BPPC support is prepared, but unfinished and untested (I don't own a BPPC).

Then in 2010:
Code:

Status:
With Cybervision64 and A3000 SBIC SCSI (with DMA disabled) the system
  reaches multiuser!
 Lots of problems left...

As far as I remember you cannot boot the amigappc kernel from a boot block yet. You need a special loader to boot the kernel, which I wrote many years ago.

I adapted the gobsd program for loading amigappc kernels, which you find here:
ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/misc...pc/gobsdppc.gz
The readme:
ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/misc...obsdppc.readme
Start it in single user mode, or better ASKROOT for a first test, and see how far you get. Recent amigappc kernels are certainly untested. A kernel from 2010 is here:
ftp://ftp.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD/misc...appc/netbsd.gz
