a4000/40, 1mb chip ?!

hi
is it normal that my a4000/40 has only 1mb chip ram?! doesn't it have 2mb ?
how is it possible ?

the a4000 being an AGA machine, has 2MB of chipmem
maybe if the chipmem is on a memory stick (and not soldered directly to the m/b) it is damaged and only 1MB works?

dunno, i've received it from ebay 2 days ago ... i noticed it while playing TRSI wicked sensations demo ... at the brginning it shows only 1mb chip ... could it be because i put 60 ns EDO ram ? i dont think so ...
how do i test chip ram ?

what does workbench say??? the demo may look up to 1mb max...

also what do you mean by 60ns mem? did you remove any of the simms on the 4000 motherboard?
AFAIK, the 1st one is a 2MB simm that serves as chipmem, and the rest make the up to 16MB fastmem... (unless this is the CR m/b revision, where the 2MB are soldered directly)

The A4000 requires a 2MB SIMM for the chip, which are uncommon. if the machine came with no RAM at all, then you'll somehow need to obtain a replacement. I suspect (though I can't check as mine is blocked by a card which I don't particularly feel like removing) that it's a double sided one, whereas most 4MB ones are single sided, so it's seeing it as a 1MB single sided one. You may get away with an 8MB one (sadly, you'll only get 2MB, even with the 8MB jumper set ;) ) since they're generally double sided. Chip goes in the slot nearest to the centre of the board.

I think i have plenty of 2mb sticks 72pin edo 60/70ns PM me :)

I wonder if the IBM 72pin 2MB simm with parity I have on my IBM-PS/1pro386 will work on an amiga...

ow i see ... i replaced 70ns EDO RAM (all 5 slots) with 60ns EDO .. i'll restore original simm as soon as possible and tell what's happen ...

aix 08 July 2006 17:17

thanks mates, you're absolutely right! i replaced simm with original 70ns, the first one is double sided, i power on and it showed me 2mb chio and 16 fast
many thanks! i ignored that chip wasn't solded on motherboard ..
