Are there any lost Amiga games?

I'm wondering whether there are any Amiga games that were in the stores back in the day but are now considered lost? i.e. neither the original nor a pirate copy is available anywhere.

I'm only talking about releases by major publishers that made their way into stores back in the day. Of course it's obvious that there are probably lots of games only sold directly by the authors that are now lost. E.g. the recently rediscovered Riamel doesn't count because it was never in the stores but only sold by the author directly.

But are there are any examples of games that were widely available in stores back in the day but are now lost or have all store releases survived in pirated copies at least?

Rainbow Islands NTSC version https://www.amigalove.com/games.php?game_id=76

I don’t know about specifics, but I’d bet that almost everything that is lost is NTSC/American, since we didn’t have anywhere near the pirate/warez scene as Europe.

I’d also bet a lot of lost productivity software (commercial and shareware) falls into this category.

There are hundreds of lost Amiga games, as mentioned above, mostly North American releases. Also many educational games are lost (Particularly French). Some Polish games could also be lost, too.

haps 19 June 2022 20:47

Yes. I lost one yesterday. It fell out of my pocket.

kremiso 19 June 2022 22:15

as italian, i can say ie about the Simulmondo Dylan Dog/ Tex collection games series, marked as extremely rare on HOL
but really available everywere back in the day, they were sold in newsstands here

so not lost, but almost

TCD 19 June 2022 22:45

The problen with the Simulmondo games is that because they didn't come in a big box a lot of them weren't considered valuable I guess. Let's hope that one day all the covers and disks show up.

kremiso 19 June 2022 23:18

yup
i must admit that i have overwritten a couple of those disks, bitd
or also traded or given away

cheap releases, with a basic instructions/story leaflet
and both PC and Amiga disks inside

Basically anything that lacks dbs, narrowed by commercial games here:

https://hol.abime.net/hol_search.php...no&N_nb_dbs=no

For North American releases in particular, Simulations Canada games are missing:

https://hol.abime.net/hol_search.php..._publisher=805

And titles like these:

I was looking at Midway Campaign yesterday. Some shop on ebay wants 200 quid...just for the box. Sigh.

I guess if somebody had a lot of time and deep pockets, they could set up an ebay alert list based on HOL's MIA...maybe something would come up now and then.

I'm also pretty sure that at least a few of these games are in people's collections. Hopefully over time something will be released from them.

Marce 20 June 2022 14:56

looking fast i found a cdrip of spherical worlds,
supposedly that is what is missing in the first list that NPI posted
however the floppy version exists

if someone can confirm is missing I can upload it to the zone

NPI 20 June 2022 15:09

Thanks, but Spherical Worlds is on TOSEC already.

Best way to quick-check is to use http://grandis.nu/eabsearch/

If you can't see it there then it's probably worth inquiring about.

Just poke them constantly with a long pointy stick. That usually works :cheese

Jokes aside, there are people that are willing to share/preserve their collection and others who either don't have the time necessary or simply don't want to. It's really up to them.

ok I just checked there and there is a file called
Uploads/Retroplay/Redump.org/Commodore - Amiga CD/Spherical Worlds (Europe).zip

however the cd rip I have says AGA/CD32

but the version on the FTP not works on a CD32 because there is no startup-sequence

does anyone knows if Spherical worlds was released for the CD32?

The info on HOL looks like it's not for CD32: https://hol.abime.net/5788

then I imagine the ancient cdrip which I have on a CD was modified to work on the CD32
anyways it seems the CD version of spherical worlds is not MIA as says in HOL

btw,

respecting all the other Amiga titles lost in such posted lists
I think they are not worth much our effort to find them since I think they are pure garbage

They are part of Amiga's legacy and for me are as important as anything else. The big hits are great and all, but without everything else it'd be really boring, a bit like a console.

Besides, even the seemingle "garbage" ones might have some redeeming qualities, especially the stuff from bedroom coders. Other ones are from niche genres, like the aforementioned "Simulations Canada" games - hardcore strategy - but that doesn't make them automatically crap, in fact they were quite likely great.
