SuperCars II sprites

1 Attachment(s)
Hi All,

I've been trying to rip the sprites from the game Supercars II, and I know that if I scroll to offset 421829 with size x:32 y:276 using Tomcat666's GfxRipper on the attached file, I can see the actual car sprites. Problem is, how do I then align all the colours etc to be able to extract them? It's not easy, is it?

Please please help.
Thanks,
Lazarus404

Funny, I was just ripping the circuit maps for a project of a remake coded in Java

EmuChicken 12 June 2005 23:54

*cough* you know I've made 3d models of these cars right? :-)

If you need them for any projects, I'll upload the model (made in 3dsmax) to the zone. I've handed it in now for my 3d project at uni (made a 3d animation- its around 50mb tho).... so if anyone's up for making a remake, LET ME KNOW! :-D ... I got a bit of knowledge in Java(script) ... but mostly I wanna concentrate in all aspects of 3D... JOTD, give me the word... :D

I've also converted an original track from Supercars 2 to 3D... if you're interested in it, drop me a PM... unless teh nice people at abime would give me permission to upload a nice 40mb animation to the zone ;-)

Ok, see the attached images... The B/W one shows how I've found the correct sprites, while the colour one shows the obvious inability of mine to align the bitplanes. I've tried changing plane types, altering the y value etc etc, but still can't come up trumps. Seems when I manage to align about three planes, the next one is over on the x and so can't be aligned... I'm losing hair over it.

Someone please help. :(

Thanks

unfortunately,Your rips are the same as mine when I tried it,maybe tomcat or x_to will be able to help(hint hint):great

seems to be AM Mode...

Lazarus404 15 June 2005 10:49

Thanks x_to. I'm trying to make a remake and would like to keep it much to the original.

Joe Maroni 15 June 2005 21:51

sorry...but i can´t get any solution...after sitting the whole afternoon behind that program... :crying

even decrunching the game doesn´t work well...

what a bad day... :banghead

Lazarus404 15 June 2005 22:55

Supercars 2 sprites & remake

Hi all,

First, I'm 100% sure the game uses EHB (extra half bright), because of the nice shadows on the circuit... IMHO It would have been impossible without EHB on a 68000! I dunno about the Atari ST version.

Second, how the hell the corners of the circuit have been ripped? I tried to create maps "by hand" by assembling screenshots but some corners are NEVER visible? :banghead

Third, yes I am interested by a 3DSmax model of the supercars pseudo-BMW car. The development of my remake (Java) has started and if you're interested I'll keep you posted about the progress.

maVado 21 August 2005 00:42

every track is stored as a bitmap, completely rendered with everything on it, therefor it was easy to rip them.

EmuChicken 21 August 2005 12:16

Its no BMW! Its an alfa romeo SZ! :) ... I can send the model when I get back to my hometown if you like JOTD... on holiday atm :S

Supercars 3 teaser

BTW slightly offtopic but I can't resist:

I'm working on a remake (Java) with a circuit editor and lots of possible cars.
Lots to be done but main principles are there and you can already drive the car though the circuits, with bounds detections (the hard part...)

See the screenshot with Audi TT car on level 1 easy level

looks fantastic though the car does look a little too big (in comparison to the original)

Maybe its my brain playing tricks on me!

Yes, It can be reduced (just a setting in an ASCII file). Original "sprites" are generated by 3DS max renders from 3D models.

And the car should be red (or green). If someone is interested, I could upload a demo in the zone. But it will take a while before the game is playable, even if the main technical difficulties are behind IMHO.
Lots of things to do in this game

The cool point is that the game comes with an editor (to define the road , boundaries and other stuff), thus it is possible to play supercars 1 levels too, or any level designed by talented users :agree

My goal is to make it as customizable as possible.

BippyM 14 September 2005 23:20

WOW!!

A demo would be fab :D

lopos2000 14 September 2005 23:46

Yes, I would like to see your demo. Looks brill.

Magix 15 September 2005 13:41

Yes, please upload a demo. Looks fantastic.
Congratulations Jotd, great work. :great

to be honest, rendered gfx never look right when you put them together with pixel art ...
