@iXien great!

@gazj82 Mega Lo Mania would be a good one to do, and the WHDLoad slave fully supports the CD32 control. Unfortunately for the life of me I couldn't get it to run, I'll definitely keep it in mind for future though.

iXien 21 September 2014 00:15

About AB3D2 that seems not to crash only on my CD32 : I saw exploring the content of the CD that you use an ISO mounted to play game datas. Is it necessary ?

All of your others ISO I tried perfectly work, so I think the problem comes from the specific use of this ISO mounted on AB3D2.

I know I'm insisting but I really want to have this one in a box as standalone release and of course it is the one that crash :crying

I have tried in the past to make a Mega Lo Mania CD32, I couldn't get it to run either unfortunately. Shame really

earok 21 September 2014 00:30

Yes, unfortunately it is necessary (unless anyone can find a better way of doing it?), the game won't work at all from the standard CDFS. The ISO mounts with the AmiCDFS file system.

iXien 21 September 2014 01:59

And you confirm this one works on your stock CD32 (no fast-RAM)? The use of another file system is hazardous. Possible that Commodore used different CD-Drives in their CD32. So maybe AmiCDFS doesn't support someones.

earok 21 September 2014 02:00

Yes, it works in my stock CD32 (PAL) no problem. I'm sorry, but without any way of replicating the issue at my end I don't have any hope of fixing it.

Football Glory

@iXien are you able to give Nemac IV a try? The reason I raise it is that I use the exact same method for running that (mounting an ISO), also since I don't hide the command line it might display any error messages when attempting to mount the ISO, so that might help us pinpoint the problem.

I tried Nemac IV (completely unplayable :D), I didn't seen it used an ISO.

The game can't manage to allocate enough memory using CPU+Blitter (popup message) but finally start without sound. Poor CD32 :p

Anyway, no loading problem with it.

Thinking of it, using the initial edition of AB3D 2, introduction with Team17+Ocean logos accepts to start so ISO is read... but crash after some time loading before the IFF control screen. Does it use ISO before or at this point ?

Bloody football again :( *sad panda*

gazj82 21 September 2014 11:54

I got the big box version of this from a car boot, but the disks were had it unfortunately, so now I get to try it out.

What's the problem with MLM? Anything I could look at improving in the Slave? (Although if it's memory related I may come unstuck!)

Also I would love to see Cybernoid 1/2 pack for this. How are you doing your menu screens, as I have thought about building a Cybernoid menu screen (just using Amos) before

earok 21 September 2014 13:04

@iXien Pretty sure it mounts the ISO after it loads the IFF. But the "quick boot" edition doesn't use the IFF at all. I'll keep thinking about it, we should be able to get it to work for you one way or another.

@Hungry Horace welcome! It's been a while since I attempted doing a CD32 version of Mega Lo Mania but IIRC the game would crash to a black screen right at the start. I could have another go at it and whip together an ISO for you to look at? (at the very least, if it was an issue at my end you'd be able to determine what I was doing wrong)

The menu screens are hacked together. I'm just using a standard IFF tool for the background and a C utility I hacked together (based on the source to Daniel Balster's joypad utility) that waits for the user to press a button on the joypad, and I feed the result of that back into the script.

Cybernoid pack sounds good to me, especially since you've put extensive CD32 pad support into your slaves for those games :) did you still want to build the menu yourself, and if so do you need help with art?

gazj82 21 September 2014 13:18

I had the same problem with it crashing to a black screen near the start. The WHDLoad does work on a stock A1200 so I don't see why the CD32 should have a memory problem.

Hungry Horace 21 September 2014 14:18

RE: MLM

i seem to recall having a similar issue with MLM doing that before, with misc. A1200 setups.

It may be a simple case of trying a few tooltypes. I'd be interested to see it fail and getting some WHD debug info out of it... If you can replicate it on a WinUAE setup that would help a lot i think.

RE: Cybernoid

I always like to try and make menus in the style of the original game(s) - having done something similar with Bloodwych, Bubble Bobble Trilogy and a couple of others before.

More than happy to put a menu together - could you send me a PM or something of how you would like the output scripts to be 'formed’, and yes, and ripped GFX you have from the game are welcomed :)

Would be happy to adapt my Bubble Bobble / Rainbow Collection (I think i included NZS) menu for you also if you wanted, or at least send you a copy so you can have a look?

Although i'm not likely to use these CD32 versions, I very much approve of the project :)
I have always liked the plug-n-play nature of the Cd32 and its part of the reason i like doing pad adaptions to the WHDload slaves. I also really like the covers and the fact you are going to extra lengths to add extras into the CDs.

Looking forward to seeing Car-Vup and Midnight Resistance included in here in the future ;)

It's really weird because I don't see why it should crash while loading the IFF screen. Thank you for your efforts, let me know if you find a solution ;)

Hey guys, if you are looking to load old ECS games that use only 1 or 2 disks, for the price of a CD32, think about buying a CDTV :blased With a harddrive and some Fast-RAM, you can make miracles, trust me...

zeropolis79 21 September 2014 23:13

Since mice work on the CD32, could Hero Quest with it's expansion pack be converted?

earok 22 September 2014 00:23

Welcome to EAB zeropolis79

I'll have a look at it sometime - how does Warhammer collection (with Space Crusade and/or Space Hulk) sound?

Just FYI - we've updated Lionheart to include an option for the slave's cheat mode with infinite lives and the ability to skip levels.
