how to update FS-UAE from 3.0.5 to 3.1

Hi
i have installed and configured several months ago the FS-UAE 3.0.5. Now i would like to update it without losing any setting and so on.
This is my current emulator folder:
https://i.postimg.cc/bJpN1M3s/Cattura.png

I have downloaded the FS-UAE_3.1.66_Windows_x86-64.zip file and i unzipped it. I belived that i simply have to overwrite the .exe file, but it is not correct... the unzipped folde is really different from my current folder:
https://i.postimg.cc/rsd64NXD/Cattura2.png
and inside the windows folder:
https://i.postimg.cc/bwqhCb1B/Cattura3.png

so, please, can you suggest how i can corrctly update the emulator without losing any settings?
thank you!

When you unzip the new version copy your configurations, floppies, save states over to the new folder.

Mine works fine when I imported over to the updated version

if you want it portable and not using your c:\documents folder you need to create folders like this at present (this is on my F drive)

legolas119 10 April 2022 19:14

well, thank, probably my FS-UAE already is portable as i don't have any FS-UAE folder in my documents folder...

in order to update it, do you mean i have to keep ONLY the following folders?
https://i.postimg.cc/mkjXKMxJ/Cattura01.png

and put them here?
https://i.postimg.cc/CK4qG4b3/Cattura02.png

probably addtional files and folders are necessary...and in the updated version, the .exe file isn't into the root folder as in my current version... the .exe is into the Windows folder:
https://i.postimg.cc/Qdh5HPTQ/Cattura03.png

it seems that it is changed the configuration of the emulator...?

I would like to be absolutely sure that everything is keep saved, i used a lot of time to configure everything...i suppose i configured my emulator in order to keep the configuration in the same folder of the emualtor, not into the C disk...but i don 't know how to verify this and how to check where are saved my emulator settings... in my Adppdata/roaming and Local and LocaLow folders there is any FS-UAE folder. And into my DOcuments folder too there isn't any FS-UAE file...

hi,
please can anyoe help me? I try to recap:
this is my current amiga installation folder of my 3.0.5 version:
https://i.postimg.cc/nhs0gYfc/Cattura00.png

and i downloaded the latest version, the FS-UAE-Launcher_3.1.68_Windows_x86-64.zip file.
I unzipped it, and i see 2 folders:
https://i.postimg.cc/QtSQHHZy/Cattura01.png

if i open the Windows folder, i see all this content:
https://i.postimg.cc/zXHh1dvM/Cattura04.png
https://i.postimg.cc/MZC47pcF/Cattura05.png
https://i.postimg.cc/4322mfkw/Cattura06.png

so, how i can update my FS-UAE without losing any settings and so on? The 2 folder are really different, i don't know why...

Can you helpo me?

thank you

You can unzip the directories anywhere (as long as FS-UAE and FS-UAE-Launcher are kept together). The actual data is stored in Documents/FS-UAE as before, so you don't lose any settings regardless where you run the program from.

legolas119 11 July 2022 22:42

ok, so, starting from the unzipped new version:
https://i.postimg.cc/QtSQHHZy/Cattura01.png

I can copy/overwrite the content of the "Locale" folder:
https://i.postimg.cc/zGK4j32S/Cattura.png

into 3 different paths:
1) Amiga\Programs\Data\Locale
https://i.postimg.cc/yNnQQRm9/Cattura2.png

OR/AND
2) Amiga\System\FS-UAE\Data\Locale
https://i.postimg.cc/zfWtNMYC/Cattura6.png

OR/AND
3) Amiga\System\Launcher\Data\Locale
https://i.postimg.cc/XJ48bY8W/Cattura7.png

and then, i have to copy/overwrite the content of the Desktop\FS-UAE-Launcher\Windows\x86-64
https://i.postimg.cc/j5w1D5f7/Cattura3.png

into 3 different paths:

1) Amiga\Programs\Windows\x86
https://i.postimg.cc/GhGxHD5R/Cattura8.png

OR/AND

2) Amiga\System\FS-UAE\Windows\x86-64
https://i.postimg.cc/nrMhjqk1/Cattura5.png

OR/AND

3) Amiga\System\Launcher\Windows\x86-64
https://i.postimg.cc/Gm6GcmbN/Cattura4.png

I haven't understood where i have to copy the 2 new folders...(

And where i have to copy the new Plugin.ini file?

NOTE: into my DOcuments/FS-UAD folder, almost all FS-UAE folders are empy. Only the C:\Users\user\Documents\FS-UAE\Data folder has some files inside:

https://i.postimg.cc/9MkYqY2m/Cattura9.png
https://i.postimg.cc/Gp2M82Dj/Cattura10.png

is this correct, right?
many thanks!

please, can anyone support me? thank you very much

I think the description on the download page (https://fs-uae.net/download#windows) is quite good.

"Download the two .zip archives and extract the contained "FS-UAE" and "FS-UAE-Launcher" folders to wherever you like. You must keep these two folders stored alongside each other."

(You are not supposed to copy out individual Locale or x86-64 folders or anything like that).

legolas119 30 July 2022 00:11

ok, thanks, i downloaded both the .zip pack and extracted them in a new empty folder, named "Amiga", and i moved there a fs-uae-launcher.exe shortcut too, like that:
https://i.postimg.cc/43VbJhn2/Amiga1.png

but my current installation is really different:
https://i.postimg.cc/Dw8PNws0/Amiga2.png

i will loose all my configurations... i don't know why my current installation is so different from the new FS-UAE versions...but now it's impossible for me to update this emulator :(
For example, i spent a lot of time to configure the configuration of T-Zero, a really special and difficult game to run. For sure i will loose this configuration if i use the new FS-UAE version...
do you have any suggestion?

NOTE: I would like to keep my configuration in the emulator folder, not in Documents, as currently i have several emulator folders:
Amiga
Amiga CD32
Amiga CDTV

as it was not possible to configure in only one emulator all the games of the 3 console. For this reason it is necessary to keep the configuration files into the emulator folder, not into the Documents folder

thanks!

In order to keep still valid ALL my configurations, i suppose i will have to copy ALL these folders/files: https://i.postimg.cc/BQb5Vv9y/amiga3.png

into my new Amiga emulator folder, like this:
https://i.postimg.cc/HsLGvbLg/amiga4.png

After that, i want to configure the emulator like portable, as i don't want the emulators files are saved into the Documents path. How I can do this? NOTE: I would like to keep my configuration in the emulator folder, as currently i have several emulator folders:

I also added these 4 rows: https://i.postimg.cc/jqwzq8v5/amiga5.png ( it was not possible to delete the existing default rows, so i left them there). Is it correct?

If you already have a portable directory, the easiest is to simply copy/move the extracted "FS-UAE" and "FS-UAE-Launcher" into this portable directory. I suggest putting them in the "System" directory, though this is technically not necessary

With this recommendation, you should end up with this structure:

D:/EMULATORI/Amiga/Portable.ini
D:/EMULATORI/Amiga/System/FS-UAE/
D:/EMULATORI/Amiga/System/FS-UAE-Launcher/

(Along with all the other existing files and directories from D:/EMULATORI/Amiga/)

No configuration will be lost.

thanks. No, this time i have created a new Amiga folder, because my previous installation was really confused.

So, this time, i have created a folder named "amiga" and i extracted inside the 2 new folders:
https://i.postimg.cc/k47xYm7n/Amiga-1.png

And then, i copied into the same Amiga directory, ALL my previous folders/files, System folder included, as you can see into the picture above.

System folder i see that already included additional FS-UAE and FS-UAE_Launcher folder:
https://i.postimg.cc/SsjKxTr6/Amiga-9.png

Is it better to cut/paste the 2 new folders (underlined in yellow into my first screenshot) directly into the System folder, overwriting them ? So i can avoid to duplicate folders, ok?

Ah, i can't add D:/EMULATORI/Amiga/Portable.ini as Portable.ini is a file, not a folder. But i added D:/EMULATORI/Amiga and it includee the Portable.ini file too as it is into the root (see my first picture into my last post). But strangely the Portable.ini file isn't update, the last update date is 24/10/2017: i suppose that currently the Portable.ini updated file is saved in another place... I searched into the Amiga folder and i found this:

https://i.postimg.cc/23p4ZzQm/Amiga-10.png
not really updated too...

What do you think i have to do in order to complete once for all this installation folder?

Many thanks!

FrodeSolheim 04 August 2022 20:27

If you have an old "System" folder, you have safely delete anything instead that and put the new FS-UAE/FS-UAE Launcher there, yes.

(Portable.ini is just a text file, potentially an empty one. It does not need to be updated. The mere presence of the file enables portable mode).

i done it, but i lost my joypad configuration settings...why? and it is not possible to add any joypad anymore:

https://i.postimg.cc/7YDdQR0V/auidio.png

how can i solve these 2 issues?

thank you!

How can i solve this issue?

thanks!

The audio warning mark is not an error, just a notice that the *current* configuration *also* specifies the empty floppy drive volume, and overrides whatever you choose on the settings page.

how can i fix it?

profo 11 August 2022 18:27

Hi,

seems like you need a correct workbench disc scanned first.
Take care of that and check wether or not the error comes back.

legolas119 11 August 2022 23:24

hi, thanks i alreay solved the issue with Worms

But i still have the waring https://i.postimg.cc/7YDdQR0V/auidio.png
