HDF under Kickstart 1.3
I wasn't sure if this should go in the WinUAE section, or here, so my apologises if this is the wrong place.
I want to set up a HDF to go with a Kickstart/Workbench 1.3 environment under WinUAE, to emulate a fairly basic A2000/A500 setup with a hard disk. But I'm not sure how to go about this. Do I need to specify a SCSI expansion under Hardware>Expansions? I have searched around and found lots regarding Kickstart 2 onwards, but only this link for WB 1.3: http://guide.abime.net/home1.3.htm I tried following the instructions there, but any time I try to make a change to the HDF, I get an error message telling me it's write protected? Can anyone help please, preferably with idiot-proof instructions? :banghead Thanks in advance. |
Short answer: KS 1.3 can't boot from HD without filesystem installed in RDB. HD controller type makes no difference.
Use HDToolbox to install 1.3 compatible FFS in RDB. If you use partition hardfiles in emulation (which don't have RDB), you need to point FileSys path to 1.3 compatible FastFileSystem file. (This emulates RDB installed filesystem). HDToolbox can't work with partition hardfiles. Note: make sure drive gets formatted using FFS. You really don't want OFS formatted harddrive. (Unless drive is tiny and you want to experience use of very early partitioning utilities made before FFS existed..) |
Ahh, thank you very much.
