We at RetroPassion are also official Hyperon-Entertainment resellers and offering AmigaOS 3.2 on backorder. It is a physical item in which you get the CD and you can also add physical kickstart ROMS and CF Cards to the order if you wish. Full details below and we ship worldwide.

Hi Gulliver, thanks for all the info. I'd be interested in 3.2 for my CD32, but from what I see it seems the CD doesn't contain a custom ROM for it, so it would need to always double reboot, is that right? I've noticed that on a YouTube video that shows the content of the ROM folder.

But then here: https://www.amiga-shop.net/en/Amiga-...3-2::1068.html

I can see they offer an option for a physical CD32 ROM. :confused:confused

Can you please clarify if that's something experimental or just a mistake?

Hi emiespo,

The CD-ROM does NOT contain a CD32 Kickstart ROM image and none was created or distributed by us.

Whether a distributor obtained permission from Hyperion to build a custom ROM by themselves for the CD32 is another possible thing, but I seriously doubt it. So I suggest you insist on asking that dealer for clarification.

Given what Gulliver wrote right above: is the CD32 ROMs offered on your site customised and non-official? IIRC the CD32 has a 1MB ROM on a single chip (and 16bits, to save costs... damn sinking C=)

Will it still need a double reboot to update all modules?

Storm 17 May 2021 14:51

Woohoo, just ordered my CD :)

Dunny 17 May 2021 15:04

I suppose I shall ask again, seeing as the last time was ignored:

For those of us emulating various models that do not have any form of optical drive in their host PC - can a digital ISO of the CDRom be made available for purchase?

Yes, once to load OS3.1 as far as LoadModule, which will update the various components in RAM and then reboot. I've been doing this on mine with some patches and it makes little real difference to the boot time. A couple of seconds.

I am sorry if I have overlooked your question.

That depends exclusively on Hyperion.
But at the moment their plan is physical CD-ROM only and digital downloads for specific Amiga models.

The digital download implies that not all models are included, no GlowIcons collection (but yes for the the OS built-in ones), no printable labels collection (only those for the particular model involved) and no CDTV/CD32 experimental support.

I hope I have covered the question you asked. If not please ask me for clarification and I will do my best.

Thanks for the reply. Disappointing but not unexpected.

Will it be available from AmigaKit or AmigaOnTheLake or other dealers eventually? (Just looking for a yes/no/maybe answer here!)

It's not just that, is the fact that without a proper ROM you might incur into problems - especially since the CD32 is not officially supported.

Thinking about FileSystem issues, inability to boot with no startup-sequence, etc. If I have to pay 60£ for it (adding another ROM for another Amiga model), I'd like it to be working properly, and forgive me for that :-)

It's not we are talking about the latest Amiga OS running on the 3Ghz Amiga 10000 with all the latest AAAAAA+ chipset features exploited! (that's a parallel universe...)

@amiespo

AmigaOS 3.2 works on a CD32 with just a little fast ram.

It has been tested on real hardware and I personally tested it under emulation plenty of times to ensure its working status.

And this is all using the module disk approach which indeed requires a reboot.

The reasoning for which we did not provide a physical ROM is of a technical nature:

Some popular CD32 accelerator's only work with the old scsi.device from OS 3.1 to provide storage, but if confronted with the new one which supports large drives, they simply lost any ability to handle their hard drives. Their firmware seems to be hardcoded that way.

On the other hand, other accelerators worked perfectly fine with the newer scsi.device that has large drive support and bug fixes.

So choosing one path would have meant, leaving the other out in a ROM context.

By only providing a modules disk, you are allowed a greater degree of flexibility, in that you can choose and adjust your modules to make your particular hardware work.

Please read section 14 of the 3.2 FAQ for further details on the experimental CD32 status.

Howdy, what is the minimum config A1000 to run OS3.2?
I asked Amigastore.eu if they'll pre-load the Classic 520 with 3.2 but so far no answer (and I dont see Amigastore among official resellers of 3.2)

Amigastore is a valid retailer, they are probably busy like everyone else.

The OS CD-ROM comes with all floppies as ADF images and a mounting system for them if you got a CD-ROM drive in your Amiga.

You may also transfer ADF files to floppies or Gotek-like devices.

You can always replace the AmigaOS 3.2 CD-ROM on machines without CD
drive unit by using any Amiga compatible bootable media in which you
copy the AmigaOS 3.2 CD contents and that is able to automount its
partition as long as the folowing provisions are taken:

1.The media in which you copied the contents of the 3.2 CD-ROM is
labeled or assigned the name "AmigaOS3.2CD" (without quotes)

2. To be on the safe side, the mediun should be formatted using the
standard AmigaOS FastFileSystem (FFS) without any long file name
extension.

This will make the machine boot AmigaPE and allow you to start the 3.2
installation if that is what you want.

The entire CD-ROM contents occupies only 77899776 bytes (74 MB).

A question about the built in ReAction, how compatible is it with old software requiring ReAction or ClassAct?

For example does http://aminet.net/package/comm/www/a...9_68k_20070721 work?

Is there a rom modules for us, who wants to build own kickstart and have all the needed modules on kickstart, so that boot works with every media.
