Font-Preferences
On my old CDs I found Font-Preferences, in my opinion a good substitute for the system Font Prefs, does anyone know if there is a more updated version ?
I ask this because I would like to use it on AROS 68k to change the color of the fonts, the Font Preferences version of AROS does not allow the change of color, that I know there are no alternatives. |
I searched for the authors name and found some entries here: https://www.amiga-stuff.com/pd/saar.html
The latest version on that list is 2.8 on disk 733. Your version is 2.17. So it might be an update. I found the disk on the ftp server but I haven't looked at it. Edit: I just looked at it and the actual version seems to be 2.9 from that disk. But even the readme file just calls it 2.8. Otherwise it looks the same as in your screenshot. |
Thank you very kind, I don't see where to download, can you attach the download link so that I can compare it !

Thanks again, in fact it is the same version I have, too bad because it is a good software.
|
Yeah, seems like your version is newer. It's from 23.1.95. The one from the Saar disk is from 13.6.94. I haven't noticed that before.
Where did you find your version exactly? Can you provide a link? |
I had it on a burned CD almost 30 years ago, if you want I can attach my copy.
|
That would be great. Thanks.

Here is my version of Font-Preferences "uploaded in The Zone", if you are interested on my old CDS I found two other good substitutes Font Prefs for OS3
|
17 is bigger than 8 and 9. Version numbers are not like real numbers. They go as 2.8, 2.9, 2.10, 2.11, ..., 2.17, ... . You use it as 2 separate numbers for version (2) and revision (17 - of 2.17 for example).
|
Yes but attention the date is different mine is 1995, his version is 1994!
|
I always get confused by version numbers, especially when they have more than one digit. In this case I would prefer it if my linked version was 2.09. Then it would be much clearer to see that 2.17 was higher.
Anyway, thanks for the upload and I wouldn't mind to take a look at the other font preferences you have. But if you don't want to share them, that's also fine with me. |
No problem, attached link in "The Zone" for the other two software, FontPrefs and TriFontPrefs, this one also useful for preservation Amiga Software.
|
Thanks again.
There is a newer version of the Triton program available on Aminet http://aminet.net/package/util/sys/FontPrefs And it's interesting that the other program is also from M. Stengle. |
I just searched some more and apparently version 2.17 was available on Aminet once. It appears to be on Aminet CD 5. Listed here: http://aminet.net/package/util/misc/sacds_cd05.lha
Or on Aminet Set 2. Listed here: https://studylib.net/doc/8500776/ami...ast-on-plastic I also found the package here: https://www.codewiz.org/~bernie/syst...eas/Amiga/gfx/ Version 2.8 is on Aminet CD 3. Listed here: http://aminet.net/package/util/misc/sacds_cd03 Searching for FontPrefsV218.lha gives no results. So 2.17 is either the last version or the name was changed. I'm actually curious why it isn't available on Aminet anymore. There are still a few other programs from the developer. |
Tested FontPrefs v28 from Aminet CD 3, has a bigger GUI, works much better than v2.17
On Aminet there is another software called FontPrefs16, similar in GUI FontPrefs, developed by another programmer and uses the MUI. http://aminet.net/util/sys/font16.lha |
What resolution are you using? For me both versions are the same size. They are basically full screen on my 800x600 workbench. I have not tried the 2.8 version from the CD.
Sadly I noticed that version 2.17 does not work for me when using from the shell, although the Readme says that it should. So I can not fully replace the original program. And I'm not a huge fan of MUI but thanks for the suggestion. :) |

Yes, it does start normally from the shell but it doesn't work if I use it to load a saved preset file.
Code:
Font FROM Saved Font.pre USE Which basically works by saving/loading certain preset files. But I just copied the original Font Prefs to C: so it has a higher priority. It's not perfect but it works. |
I don't use themesaver, but on my AfA One the system FontPrefs worked fine, I attach an old video of mine where you can see the change Themes including fonts, Pointer, Background and more.
