AOS3.2.1 visual prefs problems and wrong window size

I installed AOS3.2.1 on A1200 AGA and I have 2 issues :


1) When I want to change my windows colours (fill) using visual prefs + last quick fix, it takes a ramdom colour : if I choose blue, I will get black or green or what it wants :( It is like the colour box in VP is corrupt and not diplaying the right colours. You think you choose blue but in fact it is another colour.


2) Now something very annoying : Size for information windows is wrong for the french language and mainly for drawers. It takes all the screen and cannot be resized. It does not happen when I change the language into English. See pictures. I tried 2 install and the same happens.

Did you install the recent maintenance update to VisualPrefs 1.5k from aminet ?

Yes I did, this is what I called "last quick fix" in my post ;)

Does anyone got AfaOS work with AmigaOS 3.2.1 out of the box or can point me to whats needed to make it work? Antializing seems not to work for me on latest AfaOS.

It doesn't happen here; whatever issue was causing it may have been fixed already since OS3.2.1 was released.

Do antialiazed fonts work for you on AmigaOS 3.2.1 and latest AfaOS? Thats were I am struggling. My fonts don‘t get antialiasing at all. Must do something wrong here. Rest of AfaOS works out of the box.

Actually your screen is not wide enough to fit the French text which is on the "Icone" page; about 684 horizontal pixels is needed. I had not noticed as my screen is wider than this.

This is a problem of the Icon tab text translation, that was not catered for the new layout, so some languages are effected. Those translators that paid attention to this details all work fine, or just lucky to have short strings there..

I followed the steps WalkeroGR explained in his video here and successfully installed AfAOS on AOS 3.2:

I only cared for fonts anti-aliasing but it appears that other stuff is not working at all, and the same happened to WalkeroGR.


Now, I found a bug within the AfAOS and it is pretty annoying. When AfAOS is active, and I try to do a copy in Pointer (Workbench->Prefs->Pointer), it will error out and pop up will declare that it "Could not open clipboard". Here is the image of the issue:

As soon as I disable AfAOS, the Pointer will be able to copy/paste stuff. I hope AfAOS will be updated again and made work on AOS 3.2, it is truly great software for anyone running WB on RTG.

And it worked, but not for the monotype fonts. Those would be so spread out and anything using monotype would look weird. I tried reducing spaces between letters, without much success. You can try it out, maybe it will work for you.

In the video AfA OS is not installed correctly, if you use AfA OS Visualprefs and Birdie you can delete them because they are no longer useful. Also AfA Prefs to change Themes is disabled all because of the libraries that have been deleted.

AfA OS was supported by OS 3.1.4, from OS 3.2/3.2.1 onwards it is no longer supported.

The problem with the Icon Editor on AfA OS is a known problem, AfA OS handles high quality DualPNG icons, to create Dual-PNG Icons there is a suitable Tool for this Extension.

Thanks for above and thanks for clarifying the issue with the clipboard! I didn't follow whole installation process from the video and only installed AfAOS, without Birdie and VisualPrefs because I wanted to install and use TTF fonts within Workbench. And it works awesome for me. While you are here, and I believe you are the developer of AfAOS, is it possible to update the Fonts part of the AfAOS only, for 3.2/3.2.1? I know this maybe a long shot, but it is worth a try :) Thanks!

No I am not the developer of AfA OS, I had only created the AfA One Distribution, now no longer distributed.

Thanks to people that answered to my problems.

About the french box catalogue problem, the only way to solve this is wait for an update or can I decompile a file, try to make the changes myself and then recompile ? If yes, which one should I modify : the main french catalogue file ?

About visual prefs, can someone try on his/her side with a vanilla 3.2.1 install and tell me if the colour grid is corrupt as well ?

In that youtube link above in my first post, WalkeroGR is going over installation of VisualPrefs as well, just after AfAOS and Birdie2000 installation. I hope that can help you.

As the .cd file is not available, CTLG2CT can't be used to decompile the catalog. However, something like http://aminet.net/package/dev/misc/CatEdit1_2b should work for editing the IFF CTLG file directly. The relevant file is Locale:Catalogs/francais/sys/rawbinfo.catalog (with a cedilla on the "c" in "francais").

@levellord : thanks but it won't help me, I know how to install and use it. I installed a fresh 3.2 and it is working fine. The problem is with 3.2.1. I think VP needs to be updated. I did not test RTG but AGA is screwed up.

I use Visualprefs on 3.2.1 just fine, it does work as you can see
