Max size to use as IDE hard drive on a A1200?

Curious to know how big a SD card can be (I heard that 8 GB is the max for CF cards, so I moved to SD cards IDE adapters).

The idea is not to have a large partition but to have a 500 mb partition for WB and few 4-8 GB on a SD card; was thinking to use a 32 or 64 GB card, so I can have most of the CD images on it and mount them when I want to use them.

Would this work? I am using 3.1 WB with PFS3AIO to support large partition.

There is no limit specific to CF cards. There is a 8064 MB limit of the IDE bus which applies to all kinds of devices. And there is a 4096 MB limit of AmigaOS which applies to all kinds of devices, too.

The scsi.device from 3.1 ROM is limited. So you need to update it first. Also check: http://thomas-rapp.homepage.t-online...syslimits.html

It depends.

If you have CF card (or any other IDE device) that returns "illegal" (ATA spec limit drive returned CHS-geometry to about 8G, see second post but recently there has been CF cards that ignore the spec limit) CHS geometry, at least 64G is possible even with KS 2.0 ROM driver.

Even a 256GB CF working fine in my A1200 with OS3.2 and FFS...

Obviously recent update includes all the required bits to support large drives without need for specific hardware/filesystems/etc.

OP mentioned WB 3.1.

Thanks for your replies; so it should not matter as long as I use the correct filesystem and scsi device.

I do not have 3.2, and won't have it for quite a while (ordering from UK takes a lot of money for shipping, and other US distributors seems to have no available 3.2 cd to ship until the 20th I believe); so I am just coasting with a 16 GB card; which after a ton of pain to set up, is now up and running. Glad to see that 3.2 support even huge cards like 256 GB; that may come handy in the future
