The Big End - Supervision - Previewed September 1994 The One page 40
- This was a top down (sort of Isometric) racing game.
- This may have been a pre releas name.
- Initiated: September 1993
- Set to be released October 1994
Anyone have a scan of this page of The One?

gizmomelb 24 February 2006 11:50

umm page 41 actually, when I do some cleaning up tomorrow morning so I've got room to attach the scanner I'll scan and upload it.

Galahad/FLT 02 March 2006 10:31

Done or was to be done by the same guys (The Hidden?) that did Donk: Samurai Duck

blade002 09 April 2006 00:45

Which Issue of The One was it shown in?. I can pop over to my mums place where they all are and have a look.

gunatm 10 April 2006 17:27

Is "Speed" from Softgang already in the hol? There is a picture of the box cover!

see german a1k-board: http://www.a1k.org/forum/index.php?m...&post_nr=42#42

kolorabi 28 April 2006 00:07

Don't know if this preview was scanned before, but it's in the zone now just in case.

Well, we've gone one better and pulled out of the HOL vault some tasty 256 colour screenshots of this unreleased racing game! :spin

http://hol.abime.net/5485 (main entry including DBS)

http://hol.abime.net/5485/screenshot (screenshots x 6)

http://hol.abime.net/5485/review (magazine previews in AMR)

Originally the game was called The Big Engine and was going to be published by Kompart in late 1994. Kompart folded (boo!) and developers The Hidden turned to Supervision, who published their previous game Donk. The game was renamed to The Big End (sounds a bit cheeky!) and was previewed in The One (Sep 94) and Amiga Power (Feb 95).......and then nothing more was written about it after that AFAIR.

Anyone know why it wasn't released? Adrian? Nico? It looked quite good from the screenshots and development had progressed quite far judging from the previews.

Graham Humphrey 18 August 2007 19:57

That does look like it might have been a cool game... perhaps someone could track down the programmers and ask them about it?

DamienD 18 August 2007 20:06

Nice HOL entry DrBong :great

It sure does look cool ;)

Anyone have a demo or something?

...also moved thread to the "project.aGTW" section.

I ripped the HOL screenshots from a slideshow demo, which is as much as the Amiga community got to see (I doubt many have even seen it TBH). Would be nice if the developers or people connected to them came across this thread and a playable demo could be salvaged from whatever remains they might have. Even some info. on why it wasn't released would be something. We can but only hope! :)

Rebel-CD32 19 August 2007 05:14

I was looking forward to playing this back when I read about it in The One and Amiga Power. Even better than getting a playable demo would be to get source code, or get the game in a finished state. It's a real shame more AGTW don't get released like that.

Graham Humphrey 19 August 2007 10:59

Yes it is, let's hope some bright spark can contact the developers and persuade them to release whatever they have ;)

T_hairy_bootson 19 August 2007 11:02

That looks really cool. Such a shame it never got released.

wilshy 29 November 2008 01:15

Giving this a push up to the top :D

Saw it running at an Amiga show, very early code if I remember but still looked good. Really gutted this never come about.

turrican3 13 January 2009 01:22

no news about this one ?
Is there somebody that tried to contact the coders ? Cody ?

CodyJarrett 13 January 2009 07:49

I contacted one of the Hidden developers but he hasn't been in touch with the rest of the team since they left college.

stainy 13 January 2009 11:19

I found one of the developers and emailed him... waiting a reponse... did that on Friday I think...

here`s hoping...
