Controls aren't important? (Yes, I know... but that's only adventures m'kay ;)). Of course they are also important for retro games and graphics to a certain degree aswell (relative to the platform of course). The games from the late 80's / early 90's are different, but for me that's mainly because some genres simply 'died out' after that. If you are only into that genres I can see why you aren't into current gen gaming anymore.

There are enough really good modern games (retro-styled, too) if you know where to look, places like XBox Live Arcade and so on are well worth a look.

I know of a few good new shoot 'em ups and platformers. If you have any hint for some on Windows, I'm all ears Graham :agree ;)

8bitbubsy: I like the idea of a younger generation that takes the times to check what has been done before. This is a good way to gain a proper knowledge of things. :)
