Can't judge gameplay yet , but the game is looking amazing! The art direction is really insanely cool!

So nice!!!

Graphics are now smoother with softer color transitions. However there is no more music, only sound FX... Will you activate it again in the playable demo?

Tigerskunk 13 October 2017 10:46

Yes, off course... I just made this video quickly while coding..

I usually switch the music off when coding, or it would make me crazy hearing the start of the music all the time when restarting the game again and again for testing.. :D

Final game will have music playing and SFX.

Fair enough :)

Looking at R-Type there is no inertia but the ship moves much faster than 1 pixel per frame.

whitebird 13 October 2017 20:12

R-type does not run at 50 fps on Amiga, probably no more than 25 fps so even if 2 pixels per frame it is only 50pixels per second.

Tigerskunk 15 October 2017 10:39

Plus, you start really slow and then get speed powerups through out the level.

dvallet 15 October 2017 20:11

I love this game.
It seems to be a future hit

Tigerskunk 16 October 2017 10:50

Thanks for all your kind words in this thread, this is the stuff that keeps one going through the more difficult times while coding and pixeling...

:)

this is looking great!

Reminds me my first miggy setup :)
And Inviyya still manages to look superb!

Trachu 23 October 2017 19:43

What kind of video mode you use to get 3 intersected paralax planes?

Dual playfield and some semiclever use of 5 sprites for the planet background, sprite 6 is the scrolling starfield, 7 = shots, 8 = cockpit overlay in the foreground.

Thanks to Codetapper for maintaining his site, which gives me all kind of creative ideas like this... ;)

Amiga1992 24 October 2017 16:48

You know the planet stuff kinda breaks the illusion of scrolling especially when there's no ship yet, can it move really slowly? (reference: Super R-Type on SNES, first level)

Tigerskunk 24 October 2017 19:49

It looks kind of weird when I put off the starfield. you get a feeling of "no motion" then if no other stuff is scrolling towards you.

I think it looks okay with the star field on, though-

Actually I had the planets moving slowly once, but took that out again.

Amiga1992 24 October 2017 20:06

idea (as always feel free to ignore me!):
- Remove one of the planets, i vote the bottom right one (having both on the corners, without moving, "frames"the image, makes it more static)
- Make the remaining one move a bit.

Since it is visible only at the beginning, I think you can even shut it off after you are done (you are probably doing so already), and I think it'd help with the motion!

Well, it isn't... ;)

Believe me, I tried all of that stuff, it doesn't work out. When I started with the background, I only had the blue planet on screen, and if I move that one only, it's off the screen once the background is visible later on. or it's moving so slowly that it doesn't make any difference anyway.

elcayon 30 October 2017 13:47

I was able to play that great game for a while in Neuss during the Amiga32 event. Still a lot to do for the develloper. But even it was far from been finished it really was nice to play it.
