My Amiga days were the A600 from '92 to '96, so yeah just a 68k. Got the chipram expansion and a hard-drive in '93-94, so there was some productivity possibilities and all the accelerator options seemed crazy money to me. Where I live, even when I finally switched to PC in September '96, I remember 2000 deutsch marks got me a high end Pentium vs what would be the mid range Blizzard for the A1200 (which I didn't have).
Never stopped using the Amiga though... |
I did briefly have a used Amiga 4000/030 but had to sell that a few months later as I got a better job so 'project get my own bloody house' was in full swing and I sold all my gear to get a deposit together anyway. I only really remember transferring stuff from PC HD floppies to Amiga for some Blitz BASIC projects or just artwork to convert over to Ham8 etc. Those 24bit PCX files were massive.
Don't worry I sold my Pentium PC too so all I had was an A1200 with just 2mb of RAM but that was enough for me, I wanted my own house. Only thing that didn't sell was my N64, nobody wanted it. PS1 and Saturn with Sega Rally + VF2 + Virtua Cop with twin black guns (Jap import machine you see) sold instantly. The guy who bought the PS1 had a motorbike lol. |
I voted PPC, but fastest 68k side CPU was 040/25...BlizzardPPC 603e
|
A4000 from 1992(bought with warpengine 040/40) then added added Cyberstorm PPC 060@66mhz 604e/233.
Picasso IV Acard 7720uw scsi to ide bridge with 32GB(later (128GB) sandisk cf card for a hd. X-surf(later x-surf100) Deneb usb plextor uwscsi dvd-rw goldengate 486scl bridegboard used from 1992 to around 2012 used daily for everything from banking, credit card sites, scanning(hp scsi scanner),Color laser printing, burning cd/dvds with makecd and fryingpan. lightwave,ftp,irc,games,morph+,cinemorph,genlocking,titling,mp3's,mpeg video(badly).. Its Amiga! what couldnt you do! used it until SSL problems became a pain as my daily driver. this setup lives on now mostly same config but in a elbox mirage pro tower with sb128,voodoo 4 4500,and such added. Now with a acard 7730U scsi to sata bridge and a 256GB samsung ssd. In all that time the machine never failed me. |
'030 back in the day, nowadays my A1200 is powered by a PiStorm so... virtual '040 perhaps? :D
|
Currently, the fastest I have is AmigaOne X5000/040 with P5040 Rev C Quad Core CPU running at a clockspeed of 2.2Ghz. It's so fast that I can play Tomb Raider under DOSBox as seen in this video:

Stayed with the vanilla setup of a pure unaltered Amiga500 from xmas 1987 to around 1992ish.
Not even the extra 512k RAM. Yeah, I was THAT guy... :D |

We had a stock 68000 A1000 from '86 to @ '91 then I went online with an office DX4 PC.

68000 but at that time (end of 80's) it was just a fantastic processor for me since my previous one was the 6510 from my venerable C64
|
BlizzardPPC 040/25 603/200 was on paper the fastest I ever had so I voted PPC. Played Quake and Doom pretty well but felt slow for everything else. The Blizzard1230/IV I had before felt way quicker.
|
Why the 68080 of course
